While offerings from the Southern rap community come in a variety of flavors, there does seem to be a preoccupation with bass rumblings that make speakers rattle and backsides bounce. Beyond that, there is a rising tide of rappers taking their influential cues from the likes of Drake, Jay-Z, Kanye West, and Lil’ Wayne. Daken Breland is certainly not one of them. Based in Mississippi and barely out of his late teens, he is making it his mission to bring lyrical substance back to the South.
