Gustave Flaubert

About Gustave Flaubert

Gustave Flaubert (1821-1880) was a French writer, widely considered to be one of the greatest of all time. His most famous novel, Madame Bovary (also his first) is frequently included in ‘greatest of all time’ debates.

Beyond anything else, Flaubert prized aesthetics and the beauty of the written word. Although much of his writing is unadventurous in terms of narrative or plot, it always reflects his perfectionist search for the ‘mot juste’.
