About Jean Racine

One of the giants of French theater, Jean Racine (1639-1699) began writing poetry while in university and had his first play put on at the age of 25. His tragedies such as Phèdre and Andromaque are considered a peak in French neoclassical tragedy, prized for their psychological insight and the elegance of their language.
