The Exploding Hearts

About The Exploding Hearts

The Exploding Hearts were a 2001 punk rock and power pop band from Portland, Oregon. The four members were vocalist/guitarist Adam Cox, guitarist Terry Six, bassist Matt Fitzgerald, and drummer Jeremy Gage.

The Exploding Hearts enjoyed a rapid rise to prominence in their hometown area of the Pacific Northwest. They were beloved for their energetic live shows, bright music, and candid personalities.

The Exploding Hearts released their debut studio album in April 2003. The album, Guitar Romantic, was reviewed by Pitchfork Media as the 60th best album of the decade.

Tragedy struck later that year in July when the band’s van flipped over. Cox, 23, Fitzgerald, 20, and Gage, 21, died from their injuries, with Six being the sole survivor of the four.

In 2006, a compilation album entitled Shattered was released by Dirtnap Records.
