“Remember the very day i got caught?”
He’s talking about the day that he either Rapped in public, or rapped in a place he could get a considerable buzz.
Basically Kendrick is saying that He’d be lying if he said he didn’t want fame and fortune. He just uses a clever metaphor and wordplay.
Nice metaphors here…
“A Diamond in God’s dirt.” He’s comparing himself to a diamond found in the ground, usually only found after lots of effort…
“A Diamond in Winter.” Well, finding a diamond in brown dirt is pretty difficult, now think about finding one in snow! He’s saying he’s hard to come by.
“9 Times outta 10, you only ten songs deep, before YOU leap into a pool of sharks then swim, That’s an analogy on the way i do casualties."
He’s not talking about himself hopping into a pool of sharks… he’s saying that most of his competition, only survive in the industry to drop 10 tracks, they then leap into a pool of sharks… And all the reason behind it? KENDRICK LAMAR!
He’s referring to his life in Compton, and his “Hunger” for success. He has said that he’d been chased, shot at, and robbed by the crips growing up because his family were bloods(Pirus) so he had to join the Bloods to survive.
You can’t challenge him, nor can you tempt or damage his soul.
Since the hood is the Jungle, he’s comparing it’s inhabitants to that off carnivorous predators to symbolize the way the live in the hood.
Jay Rock does what he wants, no matter how obscene or how others will look down upon it. Similar to how “Sagging” your jeans and showing your ass is frowned upon.
He wants to get away, and he wants to leave the hell that is a earth, and go someplace that only heaven can get too.
Basically, the person watched him Slaughter another rapper in a Rap battle/Competition… Then the person went around telling everyone.
