Ok, other than Warren G and Nate Dogg, can someone recommend some good G-funk-esque artists? Heck, even some of like George Clinton’s shit could be counted as G-Funk, so post whatever. Just any smooth, west-coast type shit you know of, let me know.

This thread might point you in a good direction. Don’t listen to G-funk to often myself but those might be worth a try!

Too Short

Even it’s not west coast or necessarily G, but Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik by Outkast has a lot of funk sounds in it.

Devin the dude

My balls have a funk to them?

DJ Quik >>>>

Listen to:
Safe + Sound
Quik Is The Name
Rhythm-al-ism

If you like them, then check out the rest of his discography

will do guys, thanks. Oh I found this guy named Kashif, he’s got some good beats.

And would some of AZ’s songs kinda count as G Funk? I feel like Sugar Hill is sorta g-funk-esque.

Spice 1 (1st album especially)

Ayo whatchu know about Kashif??? Dude is a legend to me. Holla

Haha not that much, but like 4 years I was lookin through like youtube or some shit and stumbled upon a few songs by him. damn talented guy.

His debut album is a CLASSIC son, bump that shit — more people need to learn the power of Kashif

@ISelfDivine — Good list, but I don’t understand how you include Cypress Hill; especially their first album, which is ultra-dusty, looped, SP-1200 type gritty production — virtually the exact opposite of “g-funk.”

To the OP, here are some rec’s:

Above the Law Uncle Sam’s Curse
Kokane Funk Upon a Rhyme
Eazy-E It’s On
DJ Quik Safe + Sound
Ant Banks The Big Badass
Daz Dillinger Retaliation

^Thanks a ton, I knew about Ant banks (and Eazy of course) but those other ones are new to me.

Basically, you should be looking for west-coast “gangster” type of rap from 1993-95 or so. There are some that would fit the bill outside of that era, but that’s your best bet.

Oh, I thought of another one: MC Breed from that era (look up “No Future in Your Frontin'”, and also DFC Things in Tha Hood. Look those up on YouTube!

Daz, Koke, Quik & ATL are new for you? Damn, I was gonna ether the thread with some underground shit, but I’d be better off naming some of the better known ones.

  • Battlecat
  • Blackjack
  • Tweedy Bird Loc
  • Lil' ½ Dead
  • Dazzie Dee
  • E-A-Ski
  • Fo' Clips Eclipse
  • B-Legit
  • Gooch
  • Mack 10
  • RBX
  • South Central Cartel

What Kashif are you guys talking about btw? You got a link to his Discogs? The only Kashif coming to my mind would be the B.T. Express member

^Sadly, yes lol mostly east coast shit for me. I’d heard of quik but I just listened to him for the first time today. Really diggin it.

Mack and B-Legit, know em, but I’ll check out the other ones. Thanks guys, my G-Funk playlist went from about 25 songs to well over 100 thanks to yall

That’s great, Quik might be my favourite artist ever, actually. But do you have a link to Kashif’s discogs, or maybe even a link to one of his Youtube songs? I’ll find my way from there on

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBSxtLCMKKw

there ya go.

South Central Cartel is dope, whoever mentioned them

Oh thanks, that’s indeed Kashif the B.T. Express member. Also, if you like SCC, you might want to check out Havoc & Prodeje, a duo consisting out of two of SCC’s members

Listen to Xzibit’s Restless album if you haven’t, it’s a more 2001-esque kind of album. It’s also kinda similar to The Documentary so if you like that and 2001 you should like Restless.

I’ve been bumpin Mack 10, RBX, South Central and Ant Banks all day. I think I have a new favorite subgenre.

Lilwill — you should listen to Zapp if you like g-funk sounds

Zapp omg, Grendel you’re slowly becoming my favourite member

^funny you mention that, I’ve been listening to Zapp and Roger for at least a year by now, that’s some good shit

just thanking you people for introducing me to this shit right here
