Why was there controversy about EMINEM'S Relapse album? (Back to the forum)

Many critics claim the accents he pulled off were terrible, but I actually thought it was smart trick to rhyme!

His accents legit made me want to shoot myself, I was so happy when he said he wasn’t doing them anymore in Not Afraid

Really!? His song 3am was pure ingenuity, the rhyme scheme was very compact and similar and the horror core theme just complemented it.

I was alluding how the enunciation on it was exquisite nigga..

I liked Relapse and was okay with the themes and everything. I thought his bad record was Encore. I can only listen to a few songs off that and I’m a huge Em fan.

So I told the chat I had never heard the Relapse album, I wasn’t planning on to either because of the controversy. I asked Bradapalooza & ScopeY to give me the two best tracks, and here is what I posted in the chat while listening:

Deja Vu:
Rhyming is nice
Voice is unbearable
Beat is really weird
Sounds alike to Dre’s prod on “Black Widow"
And that sucked hard
This beat is definitely not good
He improves on the rhyme scheme on the second half of the song
Lyricism falls back doe
The lyricism is an harder L than the rhyme scheme is a win
Hook is doable
Singing at the end kinda fucks up, but the increased length because of it improves the chorus' rhythm
This is better than Emcee Lynx, but not by far
Meaning it’s not good
Would not bang
The song is doable for a few plays
But listening to an album sounding like this, and this is the best track? Never

Lol Deja vu was not the best track on Relapse… I’d say it was “Stay wide awake” that shit was gruesome and the alternating tempo of his delivery was nothing but monumental. Also I don’t think judging a beat should be held accountable towards Em himself it hasn’t really got nothing to do with his rapping ability. Also ‘We made you’ was HILARIOUS I’d say it’s a win

The title has sarcasm on it, as subjectively I thought Relapse is fucking sikk and therefore baffled me to why there was controversy in the first place. And also the criticism was primarily on him, not the beats. Yep we learn every day

I happened to had listened to this earlier and this is what stuck out in each song

3 A.M. had the horrorcore story
My Mom, Old Time Sake, Insane and Bagpipes From Baghdad had the most charisma
My Darling, Hello had flow
Stay Wide Awake and Must Be The Ganja had the technical skill
Medicine Ball had a little bit of everything above
Beautiful and Deja Vu are his personal songs
We Made You and Crack A Bottle are his obvious Pop attempts
Underground is pretty much how the last song on any Eminem album is

There was a little bit of everything in this album, just not at the same time. I honestly think this was his practice album after coming out of rehab and stuff so he can find his style again.

He had a song about child molestation on it. Nuff said

I really liked Relapse. Not his best work, but not as bad as Encore.

I actually enjoy Insane, but mostly for the beat. Yes, in terms of technical ability, it’s alright, but I’m going to have to call the lyrics lazy as hell. It’s graphic as fuck, but would you call it a shocking song? Hell no. There’s no shock factor when you’ve been spitting better versions of that same shit for about a decade. I think I see why he decided to switch up his style for Recovery — the real shock came when he stopped spitting about graphic death and talking about life and relationships… now that is some truly shocking shit

WOW Deju Vu Bad? wtf that was like one of the best songs on the album imo, as for the album it was ight, Encore was a whole lot worse and Recovery was good

Also a few things to point out, the track “insane” was obviously a falsified account, but it was however a metaphor advocating how terrible and deplorable his child hood was. Notice how in “We made you” he says “Can he come back as nasty as he can Yes he can, can, don’t ask me this” the song ‘Insane’ was a reference to how he can be disgusting.

Em even said in a interview that if you felt like to puke then you got the right reaction.

Don’t care, I still didn’t like it. Just because OFWGKTA talks about rape in almost every song for shits and giggles doesn’t mean I have to like that either

And I didn’t mention anything about OFWGKTA , if anything Eminem has been rapping about that stuff years before them… Don’t worry I know you found RELAPSE frightening it’s okay, Kid.
