How many classics albums does Eminem really have in your opinion? (Back to the forum)

You’re only saying he has 3 classics because you’re a stan. Talk to any hiphop head or hiphop listener who isn’t an Em stan and they’ll be indifferent towards whether or not he has a classic. “Classic” gets thrown around so much these days. “Classic” is something that everyone must acknowledge, it’s not subjective or based on preferences if it’s being taken in a general sense. “GOAT” on the other hand, is preference. |

I’d say 2; MMLP and TES. SSLP was a great major label debut, but I don’t feel like it’s classic “material”. Otherwise, nothing he has is classic material. |

Dilla, I was a former stan, I won’t lie.. however no.. I just personally believe he has three. You’ll never have something that everyone must acknowledge.. it is still a preference thing. How can a GOAT album (Somewhat similar to saying a classic album, be any different than a GOAT artist?) I just asked for others opinions and thoughts, not to get bashed for mine. And I agree SSLP wasn’t on par with MMLP or TES, but the fact that it was a major label debut record and his first real chance at rap kind of throws it up there for me |

From a straight up musical perspective, none. The production just isn’t good enough to replay, regardless of what Em is doing on the mic. If you put impact into the equation, you can probably convince me he has 1. |

I think the only album that really comes close as a complete statement is MMLP. It’s the most focused in terms of lyrics and production and probably had the greatest cultural impact of any of his albums. I don’t know if people really take that into effect when thinking about classics, but a lot fo the albums we deem classic are usually accompanied by some sort of cultural significance whether it’s within the hip-hop community or the wider American community. I think MMLP definitely hits that criteria, and Em’s rapping is so generally spectacular throughout that it makes up (in my ears) for occasionally lesser production (as with Ras Kass' “Soul on Ice”). |

I’d say that MMLP is definitely a classic or can be considered a classic by many. Personally, I don’t see an argument for the other albums. |

Recovery is a personal classic to me. However, I wouldn’t consider it a classic because it catches so much hate. Classics are fairly universally loved. If you’re asking me about MY classics, then Recovery is on that list. But in general, I wouldn’t say it is a classic. So probably 2. ^If that makes any sense. |

I feel like people let an album’s cultural impact get in the way of evaluating the quality of the album. Sure, it’s a factor I consider in determining if an album is a classic, but the quality of the album is really whats truly important. An example of this would be the Marshall Mathers LP vs. The Eminem Show debate. These two albums are typically ranked one or two on Eminems list. I believe that the people who rank MMLP ahead of TES do so because of it’s cultural impact. Which is respectable, because the cultural impact it had was huge; it was music the world hadn’t seen before. However, the overall quality of TES was far superior. The Eminem Show was his masterpiece. The pinnacle of his career. Everything around that time was just all him. Whether it was features, 8 Mile, or The Eminem Show. Him rapping over his own beats and throwing in that mixture of every topic that could possibly be rapped on was his niche. I don’t think his albums should have a gimmick or topic like the others.. Just a pure “show” of different sounding beats and topics that everyone wanted to hear about simply because he was Eminem and was the most popular man in the world at the time…MMLP didn’t have that feeling. It was more a gimmick (a really, really fucking good gimick, albeit..) but the Eminem Show was just him — with the whole world behind him. And Em killed it. My personal preference: The Eminem Show Recovery Encore |

“Here’s Lemson again, commenting on a thread dealing with Eminem, even though she hates him with a passion” And here’s Infamous Green again. Someone who only comes out when Eminem is mentioned. What does he have to do? Nothing other than defend his jizz model. How can you say Eminem has a classic album? His only albums that are somewhat listenable and tbr, they’re not even that great. SSLP has like 2 good songs tbr. Still Don’t Give Fuck and Role Model are the only good songs. Every other one sounds exactly the same. MMLP was alright. Stan is the only good song on the whole album. Under the Influence is alright, mainly cuz D12 is on it. The Eminem Show is his best album but still nothing near a classic. Without Me is the only song on there that I’d put on a favorite songs playlist. |

TBR there are only three albums that should even be included in this conversation. And the issue is the same with all three of them — they’re all just TOO LONG. Just stuffed front-to-back with varying degrees of filler, so the highs of all three are dizzying, and there’s no shortage of classic TRACKS on all three, but there’s plenty of stuff to kill the vibe. Can a “classic” album really have “Amityville”, “Under the Influence”, AND “Bitch Please II”? Can a “classic” album really have “Hailie’s Song”, “Drips”, “Say Goodbye Hollywood”, “Say What U Say” AND “Soldier?” Honestly, the album that feels the strongest from an ALBUM-album standpoint is SSLP — it’s leaner and there are no tracks that are notably below par. It’s a solid listen, unlike MMLP and TES where my finger is always half on the skip button. |

3.. Idk why everyone thinks MMLP is better than SSLP though, I don’t. So those two and Eminem Show. The rest of his albums only have like 2-4 good songs. That’s including Re-up and Hell: The Sequel. Curtain Call wasn’t really an album so that one doesn’t count. I want his 8th to be a concept album, but it probably won’t. Did anyone hear the news of his daughter Hayley dissing Taylor Swift on twitter cause she’s dating that dude from One Direction. LOL. You think Em gon get involved if Taylor responds? |

SSLP didn’t really have any filler tracks either. I could listen to the whole thing front to back. Had more enjoyable songs than MMLP to me as well. Even though I love MMLP I think SSLP had better songs on it, maybe that’s just me though. |

Funny to see a Jay-Z stan (Wang) criticizing anyone else’s album.. especially for having filler; seeing as Jay himself’s albums are ALWAYS full of filler and completely carried by production. Just slightly ironic I suppose. |
