If you really think killing people, selling drugs that has destroyed communities, and other crimes is worth it and all good all in the name of adding credibility to a beat, then get help. If being real is all that, I will gladly be fake. And idk about you all, but I’d rather be that because “fake” is getting Rick Ross millions and “Real” is getting the Real Rick Ross serious jailtime.

Rick Ross isn’t the best rapper, I like 9-10 songs out of his WHOLE catalogue but that “he’s fake. he talks about all that when he didn’t do it” is bullshit. I guess Denzel is fake too, how dare he play a crooked cop that robbed and killed people when he never did any of that in real life like in Training Day.

There’s a difference between artistic personas and lying about who you are. Ross is making it seem that he really is a drug dealing kingpin outside his music.

All the examples you gave are of rappers taking a role in a song(album in Hov’s case for American Gangster). But the key difference from Ross is the role is played within the song/album and in it only. Ross’s persona extends beyond a single song or piece of art; it is a whole fake identity.

That’s like comparing an actor in a movie/play to an identity thief.

He was a CO for ONE YEAR when he was 18/19. He didnt get hot until he was 30. 11 to 12 years later. Who says in that time period that he didnt do any dirt???

The thing is, Biggie did actually live the life he rapped about. He slanged (slung?) crack (like Frank White did, though not on the same level). The specific details like shootouts with cops or killing rival dealers and shit were fictional stories in his songs. But his overall identity matched with the life he rapped about. You cant say the same for Ross.
