Basically I rap in times other than 4/4, and common time seems to be all anyone around this site (not to mention the world at large) seems to be doing.

I just write as I write, so I don’t try to make anything a specific signature, but just 4 measures of 4/4 bores the fuck out of me so if I notice that I usually change it. Not the kind of thing I notice in other rapper’s music, but you maybe just ruined some artist’s for me if I start paying attention too much.

I listen to a lot of math rock, so I like a good amount of complicated time signatures and stuff, but also hate it when people just try to use a fucked up time signature to be different. It can be done right, but a lot of times it just fucks up the flow and sounds awkward.

There’s a reason people use 4/4, its the most natural timing and what we’re all used to hearing. If you got to deviate from that its to make the song sound better, or your just complicating something for the sake of complications. My general thoughts on the subject, not really for hip hop directly.

Waltzes (3/3) are usually pretty sweet tho, haven’t rapped over one but it’d probably be fun and sound classy as fuck, would try it.

I also don’t care that you would like more variation in time signatures to be more commonplace. But don’t act like you’re automatically better than everyone else. And, as people have said, providing some stuff (whether it’s actual songcloud files or even transcribed lyrics) would go a long way to help your case.
