Dope tracks on bad albums (Back to the forum)
|
It’s probably a near universal experience amongst music listeners; that one track (or more) on albums that, apart from that song, you can’t feel at all. Anyway, post'em up: Full Metal off Curren$y’s Covert Coup: I’m def in the minority with my opinion on this album, but I couldn’t get into it. The concept of pairing Alchemist’s really airy, ethereal beats featuring light, melodic samples over groovin basslines and jazzy drums, with Curren$y low-key, hazy flow sounds like a great idea, but I wasn’t feeling it in practice. The beats were overly samey, and got boring easily, and The Type is one of the worst songs of the year imo. But, Full Metal is excellent, one of the reasons being that it breaks away from the above forumula. The melody is intense and almost apocalyptic sounding, and it’s placed over one of the coolest, most unorthodox drum beats I’ve ever heard. This is a song for army to march in battle to. Just Begun off Reflection Eternal’s Revolutions Per Minute I bought this album on the strength of this song, and liking Hi-Tek’s ish on Black Star. I was met with an album almost entirely consisting of mad wack beats. Just Begun, however, works extremely well, with it’s chilled out beat led by a catchy sax (?) melody, and four emcees spitting top notch verses. |

lift you listen to Canibus so you’re probably desensitized to awful beats now, but, for real, the beats on that joint were awful. |

Dinner Time off Royce da 5'9’s Street Hop Another album by a great emcee with wack beats. Shit, even the Primo beats on this joint were weak. It also had some seriously corny hooks. Dinner Time is a straight banger though; a horn driven beat creates an energetic, hyped feeling, while Royce and Busta spit fire, matching the intensity of the beat. A catchy flow structure that both emcees stick to rounds out this great song. |

^Damn. You attack everyone who doesn’t like Canibus. You act like Canibus is your artist and only you and select others can listen to them. I can listen to Canibus if I want. Klonopin can too. Just because Canibus has a bad voice, delivery, flow & horrid production I don’t listen but if all of those were good I would listen to him a bunch. |

^There are some solid beats on it, but most of it is weak. I always forget how dope the beat on that Warriors track was. Shake This has ill drums in the verses, but the sample is too light for how aggressive the song is, and the shit in the chorus is wack; the whole hook is wack, actually. New Money has a nice beat too; damn, that hook is bad is awful too. |

I didn’t know you guys hated I Am. I love that album, my third favorite Nas album right there. Off the top of my head you have NY State of Mind 2, Nas is Like, Dr. Knockboot, Kissing, Money is my Bitch, and UNDYING LOVE! Every track on that LP is good IMO. I get why you guys dislike it though, he kind of starts going towards the mainstream theme with the money talk. Also Hate Me Now is a straight banger. Anyways… Top Billin off this little thingy…
