Is There A Formula For GOING VIRAL? BE FAMOUS TOMORROW!
Like Meek Mill said, “boy its levels to this shit”! So I thought to myself is there really any guess work to being discovered anymore provided you have actual talent? In my opinion here are steps needed to go viral and be the next big name in hip-hop for at least a little while. Feel free to put this in practice and add so that this might benefit someone.
Step 1 (MAKING YOUR PRODUCT) If you’re trying to break into the rap game your gonna need a marketable product. Your product is of course gonna be your mixtape and overall how you carry yourself. Don’t think you have to go to the neighborhood studio and pay $1000 for a 4 song demo cd that got rushed with a shitty mix, if anything learn how to sound engineer yourself or be homies with someone who has good mixing ears. You’re better off paying a $1000 dollars for reusable equipment than a shitty demo tape. That being said MAKE ORIGINAL CONTENT, if nobody cares to listen to Rick Ross remix to “Hold On We’re Going Home” what do you think about yourself? Your song should offer Hip-Hop something it has never had and desperately needs…don’t try to be the next Flocka/Kanye/Tyler…just be yourself and like Chance the Rapper said, “everybody is someones everything”. Think about your odds…there is over 6 billion people who live in the world, at least a million will stan over you.
Step 2 (YOUR MUSIC VIDEO) I think this is probably where the magic really starts if you do it right. Cheif Keef “Don’t Like” video was shot in a hardly furnished house…wasn’t all that fancy…but that basicness was highly polished and by default original. Your video needs to be “SHAREWORTHY”. If you’re trying to go about it like established rappers by wearing “nice clothes and hand gesturing at a camera” welcome to SNORESville. SHAREWORTHY means apart from your lyrics…it has to be unique. Unique is always remembered over fancy…don’t believe me.
Azealia Banks 212-Black and White with a silly loveable dance.
Yonkers-Black and White eats cockroach and takes shirt off.
Earl in Earl- Fishbowl Lense, they drink some crazy shit and bleed to death.
All Gold Everything-Trinidad James lil puppy, walking around a neighborhood being ignorant.
Shit even Beyonces SIngle Ladies is a simple classic that went viral and she was just dancing with a guy and a girl in a black and white video with a white backdrop.
So make your video to the point that it could be parody inspiring (free promoting if you ask me) and keep it simple so that it’s shareworthy. It’s easier to tell a million people check out this video with the kid eating the cockroach than it is to beg a million people to check your vid out because “you’re the next (insert name here). STOP TROLLING ON YOUTUBE, that lose fans quicker than anything.
Step 3 (Online Presence) In my opinion all you really need is a Youtube Channel and a website to start off with. Don’t get too wrapped up into getting twitter followers because this usually backfires. If you’re not locally touring you don’t need a twitter. Reason being as superficial as people are today they associate follower # with actual talent. So just don’t submit yourself to the rat race. It’s better in my opinion to be a “mysterious artist like The Weeknd” than a “documented nobody”. Keep your material in one centralized location to maximize the look of heavy traffic. So when you make that shareworthy vid for youtube add some clickable links to your website where people can view and download your songs/ pictures/see tour dates/ and biography. Don’t drench the internet with your material by putting it everywhere…but carve out a little spot for you and your fans to chill.
Step 4 (Building A Buzz) Well since your internet game is looking strong but mysterious it’s time to submit your stuff to people who get paid to share their opinion. Start overseas and submit your ish there first. Overseas Music magazine/websites/music forums because you’ll capitalize on shareworthiness with foreigner quicker than AMericans. Think about how many time you been looking at website and you see a Foreign group…first thought that goes through your head is hmmmmmm, they must be big if I’m reading about them. So capitalizes on that. Send out a well polished Electronic Press kit to these place and I’m sure at least one place will give your buzz some traction by giving you a little spot to promote you. With that being said the further away from USA your buzzing the bigger the ECHOOOOOOOO! So after hitting up the foreign markets first, the USA like vultures will pick up on you since you’re buzzing in Timbuktu because it makes them look like they’re not up on shit. With that being said start from the TOP and work your way down when sending out your E-Press Kit in America….it’s better to get 1 person in Pitchfork talking about you rather than submitting yourself to wrath of 4 trolls on a blog post. You don’t need shade starting off…you need love and attention like a baby.
Step 5 (Streetwork Time) Aight by now you got the dope ass mixtape, cool video, polished website that’s a one stop shop of you for your fans to view your material, you got some writers talking about you overseas and over here too..you might ask yourself what to do next? Well since you established yourself somewhat you got a little bit more clout to work with other local artist, and do local gigs. If you haven’t already gotten a co-sign already at least you carve out a little spot for yourself so that the next project you got coming up you’ll have an anticipating fanbase and more resources to draw from since a handful of people are feeling your shit ya mean. Just following the model of many sucessful hip-hop freshman…a lot of their fans want to see them win because they’re down to earth and genuine people who captivated them just by being themselves.
AGREE or DISAGREE….add to the guide and may it HELP EVERYONE!
idk man, but if u eat a bloody tampon and put the vid on youtube, you’ll get tons of views.
nice read bro,
@Lozo1016 exactly…I mean I wouldn’t…but imaging someone eating a bloddy tampon to a dope as song about Vampires…that easily gonna be 1 million view in 2 weeks with a spot on Tosh.0. You’re following the model I see.
True, you forgot tits though.
@WeezyFMorris I beg the differ, my research shows that tits in a video haven’t done anything for an artist’s career in recent memory/ Well there is the A$AP Rocky video with the bitches fucking in the shower but that about it though.
So when is your book coming out?
u have to be a doge
@TannedStan you got jokes, I’m a journalism/psych major and I still write like shit. I don’t know what you’re talking about. I just wrote all that because I figure it could help somebody just starting off. Sort of similar to a real life experiment.
@GrizzlyGoose Tits in the sense that any female with a decent chest size or body in general and the means to show it off publicly can attain a large amount of followers.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3aYod2C7nvE Yeah, Onika was active from since 2006 but really didn’t get any looks until she got her tits and ass done and dropped “Itty Bitty Piggy”. TRUE STORY
@GrizzlyGoose bro, you got to expand outside of youtube… Do you know why you can’t find tits in youtube ??(that easily)
‘cause if you show tits it’s too easy to go viral.
Pls help M'Balls go viral.
PM me and I will set you straight, go viral today
