Chances are I missed a hundred extremely shitty threads. The fact is, we have way too many duplicate threads (How to prevent these you ask… GOOGLE motherfucker. Ever use it? You know… Key words… “Rap Genius Forum Mainstream Rap”). We’re getting a lot larger, our forum especially, so duplicate thread topics and the pool of poor threads is obviously going to grow larger. You can combat that latter by simply THINKING before you press “Create Discussion”. Use more than ten words in the original post. Think things through and actually provoke a discussion!

In my hunt for shitty threads on our forum, I noticed that there were way too many of these:

A lot of things said here are true, but I feel like there might have been a better way to point these things out. Instead of wasting time making this thread, maybe a mod should have concentrated some energy on creating a “RG Community Rules” or “Do’s and Dont’s” page as a guideline for things that are and are not appropriate to post in the forums. To me this thread is as pointless as the ones pointed out in the OP. This isn’t solving anything.

@6X I’m just saying your complaints would be more effective if you had some rules or guidelines to fall back on. I mean, it would be one thing for me or any other regular to make a complaint thread like this just to get it out there, but then again, we aren’t mods and can’t actually do anything about it. Since you have a bit more power, you should try using it. And because you do have the ability to delete threads and posts, that could be used as one method of enforcement. Some people on here are trolls, however, others are just well-meaning passersby who don’t know much about how rg expects the forums to function. So it definitely wouldn’t hurt to at least give those people some sort of heads up in the form of some formal guidelines. And honestly how long would it take to make those? About as long as it took you to make this thread, maybe less. I’m honestly not knocking you, but that’s just my opinion.
