Illmatic on Billboard!
Illmatic re-entered Billboard-200, kind of sucks that it only re-peaked at 18 though.

Grammatical corrections welcomed?
Hip hop certainly isn’t about perfect grammar, but in serious critique (“critiquing poetry”) grammatical care is often a measure of good taste.
So correcting grammatical errors in other people’s line explanations… is it helpful or annoying? Will comments with *s followed by corrections ever be taken into account by anyone and edited in?
Are grammar nazis pretentious bitches or brothers trying to lend a hand?
Maybe I can answer my own question. The “About” page poses RapGenius as the overlap of Hip Hop Lyrics, Wikipedia, and Urban Dictionary. The Urban Dictionary influence probably precludes any commitment to good writing in favor of randomness and “hilarity”. Shame, because the other two have it in spades.
I should sincerely hope that line explanations are grammatically correct. That’s a matter of presentation and professionalism. Not to the point of some “can’t start a sentence with ‘and’” or “can’t end a sentence with a preposition” shit, but following the basic conventions to ensure readability.
If the baseline level of writing on this site turns into what people post on the RG facebook’s statuses, I for one wouldn’t read it anymore.
Good to hear. I suppose my next question is: do grammatical corrections constitute “good contributions” worthy of “Rap I.Q.”?
Possibly this community is small enough that more substantive work would be appreciated… or is it large enough that every little bit helps?
