Renegade - Did Jay really get killed ... i THINK not!!

Here’s a link..

If you haven’t listened to it in a long time please do. I feel like if Nas didn’t mention Jay getting ‘killed’, most people wouldn’t have that opinion today. They basically got a co-sign from a legend and ran with it. Also adding to the fact that most people heard Ether FIRST, then found Renegade (whether you admit it or not).

I personally feel like Jay’s second verse is the best on the song, but Em’s two verses are better than Jay’s first.

State yo case

Em outperformed Jay on this, but it isn’t a “renegade” in the way that the term is popularly used. Isn’t it ironic, don’t ya think

I prefer eminems verse two both of Jays and that is coming from a Jay stan.

Both of Em’s verses shit on Jay’s, which happens to be the universal opinion, and this is when I didn’t even know Jay and Nas had beef years ago.

Eminem murdered Jigga on his own song

I dunno.. I relate to Jay second verse that’s why I feel its better I guess

“Do not step to me, I’m awkward, I box lefty, an Orphan, my pop’s left me, an often, my momma wasn’t home”

That shit hits so hard when you actually feel it… fancy multi’s can’t beat that imo

Jay presents his hustler backstory in multiple songs outside of Renegade, I don’t find this one really all that different and honestly did it better in The Black Album.

Jay Z’s lyrics shit on Ems.

Mami’s knocked up cause she wasn’t watched over
Knocked down by some clown when child support knocked
No he’s not around

I had to hustle, my back to the wall, ashy knuckles
Pockets filled with a lot of lint, not a cent
Gotta vent, lot of innocent lives lost on the project bench
Whatchu hollering, gotta pay rent, bring dollars in
By the bodega, iron under my coat, feeling braver

Do not step to me, I’m awkward, I box lefty
An orphan my pops left me, and often, my momma wasn’t home
Could not stress to me I wasn’t grown, especially on nights
I brought something home to quiet the stomach rumblings

No lie, just know I chose my own fate
I drove by the fork in the road and went straight

Em had the better flow, tecnicality. Jay had the better topic in my opinion. So there isn’t really a renegade there at all. And I’m saying this with honesty because I listen to this song like everyday when walking to college and back.

Here’s how I look at it. If there was a perfect example of a renegade, the original one (the one posted in the OP) wouldn’t even be close to it. Jay held his own in that song, but considering Em’s hype during that time, the amazing production on the album (Some people have this notion that the more well produced an album is = the less work being put into lyricism) and Nas making it known that ‘'Em murdered him on his own shit’‘ the term Renegade was born.

Agree. Even back when I was a HARDCORE Em stan, I always thought Jay was better

February 14th, 2014

Yeah, but not because Jay was bad, its because Em was just that fucking good.
