Why does everyone hate Macklemore?
I’m not gay but his music is amazing
Hey, Another " Controversial " ?
In situations Like Trayvon (sp) where he was killed due to a possible hate crime. Artists like Los make songs dedicated to them… i wonder if they truly feel hurt for them. i mean i know they dont think “ fuck that nigga, idk him ” but i believe that they only have a Platonic care for em', yet in these songs u’d think that the one killed was them…
Anyone understand what im saying? or disagree/agree?
You’re essentially asking if songs like that are truly heartfelt or just cashing out on current events?
To an extent. like i said i dont think that theyre heartless demons that are hungry for money. and its possible that cash isnt the motive. but i believe that he didnt (literally) lose sleep off of it. I think it could of been made for being on top of current events and music for people to relate to (ex. he lost his dad). i believe that if people truly care they might send a letter to president or congress… thats realistic. and if you care more, protest, whatever… but its just like if a hurricane occurred making a song would do little to nothing, now going down there to help out and build or even send a couple of bucks it seems (to me) a great way of showing you care (although, if your doing it, your not looking for recognition).
whats your view?
I think Los reached more people by making a song about it than sending a letter to the president. It’s not like Obama doesn’t know about it already, and only by getting riled up, will you make any difference with these sort of things. I haven’t heard the Los song in question but if I had to guess, I’d say the reason why he did it was because he could see himself or his friends and family in Trayvon. As in, it could have been me. And I’m sure Los' feelings about that aren’t fake at all.
After the Amaduo Diallo fiasco, which was very similar to the Trayvon one, a bunch of rappers got together and made an EP called Hip Hop for Respect to talk about these issues. Here’s my favorite song from that.
The Los song sucks so he can’t possibly be trying to cash in on anything
I hope so. im just kinda thinking about people in general, like with Kony 2012 people were posting it (which helped awareness wise) but when it came to spening money or time people never came through. all i saw was, OMG Kony 2012… idk, i feel alot of peoples feeelings are exaggerated and not genuine. i mean if those people cared they’d actually try. (in this case, better than the last) send letter to government, do petitions…idk.
do you understand what im saying?
Childish Gambino mentioned him in a song
“Man I die for my hood, Trayvon” ahahaha
But honestly I hate how everyone acts like he was the first person to ever get killed. You realized Hitler killed around 6 million Jews for pure pleasure, right?
The Hip Hop For Respect album is dope, other stuff to check would include We’re All In The Same Gang, & Self-Destruction
