R.I.P. Chuck Brown, the Originator of Go-Go [08/22/'36 - 05/16/'12]

Yesterday, May the 16th, Funk legend Chuck Brown passed away at age 75.

The Godfather of Go-Go’s biggest hit was probably “Bustin' Loose” the song has been adopted by the Washington Nationals baseball team as its home run celebration song, and was interpolated by Nelly for his ‘02 number one hit “Hot in Herre.”

Besides Nelly’s hit the song was also sampled in:
Eric B & Rakim’s “Eric B. Made My Day"
Public Enemy’s ”I Ain’t Mad at All
MC Hammer’s “Bustin' Loose"
DJ Shadow’s "Lesson 5”
Tha Alkaholiks‘ ”Daaam!"

If anyone wants to add something about him, a great sample or song, feel free to!

Before the go-go stuff the Soul Searchers put out some solid funk albums. Their song “Ashley’s Roachclip” is a classic breakbeat. It’s been used in a bunch of tunes — Paid in Full and Jack the Ripper are probably my favourites.
