Usually when rappers turn to the silver screen their efforts make us as rap fans cringe with discomfort. Bad acting, poorly delivered dialogue, paper thin characters are just some of the symptoms that rappers suffer from whenever they’re on the screen. However there are some rappers who have gone into film and have actually delivered good performances, Mos Def in 16 Blocks comes to mind.

Not to mention Will Smith(yeah a person doesn’t have to curse the shit of you to be a rapper) who has dominated the film game for the last decade or so. So in their honour post the rappers you think make good actors and the movies you liked them in.

I’m actually watching Date Night as I type this, which features Common giving a pretty good performance.

Mos Def: Italian Job, Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, and Be Kind Rewind are some of my favorites from him. He’s one of my favorite actors in general.

Andre 3000: Revolver, Semi Pro

Ludacris: RocknRolla, saw him in a Law and Order episode he was really good.

@Talib My dude Revolver is one of my favourite films ever. I was really surprised by his acting in that, like I completely forgot he was Andre from Outkast as well as a solo artist just great acting!!

Common in Date Night and Just Wright. He’s a decent actor.
And Ludacris who’s been involved in big movies like Fast Five and he’s won a Screen Actor Award or something. ;–)

Yeah, he was great in it. I recommend you see RocknRolla if you liked Revolver, it’s by the same director.

I’m not so sure about this anymore with all the kids movies he’s doing, but Ice Cube in Boyz n the Hood was the second best acting by a rapper in any movie imo, other then Mos Def in 16 Blocks

@Talib I have man, I love Guy Ritchie flicks Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch and all of that.

Me too, in fact, Snatch is probably my favorite movie. I got a poster hanging up in my place. I don’t really know why I prefer it to Lock, Stock but I guess it has to do with the Pikeys and Bricktop.

Word

I liked Common in “Wanted”, and “ATL” that T.I. was in is that shit to me, considering during the time it came out I was living in the south.

I also just literally facepalmed, I’ve seen Cadillac Records more than 20 times and never realized until now Mos Def was Chuck Berry…

I’ve actually never seen ATL even though I’m from there, but now that it has the Donny Bravo seal of approval I might have to give it a shot.

I liked Common in Wanted too, great action film. “Shoot this mother fucker!”

haha, it’s not on some hood shit or anything like that you’d expect from TI, but you get to see Lauren London for most of the movie so that makes up for it. And the ending gets me every time, lol.

Lauren London is fine as fuck. How the fuck did Weezy hit that… Mysteries of life I swear

TI had the chance to… and he chose Tiny instead, that nigga had to be on some strong ass marijuana. TI looks old as fuck in ATL too, back when I first saw it I aint notice, but the nigga looks at least 25.

Well I’d say that’s fairly accurate considering he was 26 at the time.

Really?! He had the chance to get with Lauren London and he picked Tiny? Wowww

vs

I dont see it…

Yea, but he was playing a high schooler or someone who just left high school and it looked kinda awkward. Everyone in that movie looked young except for him, especially Lauren London.

Will Smith is the GOAT in this category

Ain’t nobody mention Mos Def’s role in Something The Lord Made?

@sockwithahole: I know this is completely off-topic, but did you get your username from “Rhinestone Cowboy” by Madvillain? If you did, that’s dope.

@DerChancellor Is that the movie where Mos is acting as a heart surgeon, I never got to check it out…

@DerChancelor, it’s on my list of movies to watch, but I can’t find that joint anywhere.

@Nistheletter, I just noticed the u in favourite, looking back I guess it was kind of foolish to assume you weren’t familiar with all of Guy Richie’s work.

Good observation man, even though I’m not from the UK I spent my early years there lol!

SO y'all mention every other rapper except the most obvious example?

WTF about Will Smith…

if you like common in movies…..check him out in the show “hell on wheels”, not only is the show awesome but he plays the character really well

but no mentions of Tupac? or LL?

Ice Cube, Queen Latifah kind of plays herself in movies imo..,Tupac, MZA Method Man, Will Smith, Marky Mark (Mark Walhberg), How could you forget 50 Cent,DMX, Kid N Play’s movies were alright and finally and GOAT Police Officer Actor Ice T

tupac was a very good actor in juice

@BigFoot

I did, props on the knowledge haha

I think the best raptor out there is Donald Glover. Cuz Childish Gambino is da best.

Friday!

imo, tupac is by far the best actor/rapper

i’ve said forever that he would’ve won an oscar if still alive…not only did he attend a performing arts school in high school where he was acting in shakespeare plays, but he did 7 movies by 25. His rap persona was acting. No other rappers is even close

Mos studied Experimental Theatre at NYU though…

OP WHY DID YOU SPELL OUT “SLASH”

Oh I see the point of this thread now, you didn’t mean the best rappers/actors, you meant the best rapper Slash actors as in which rapper does the best impersonation of this guy.

Is it Asher Roth?

How High — Method & Red GOAT movie tbh…

Say what you will about Ice Cube’s current film roles but “Friday” is a goddamned classic.

Luda was good in Crash too

Also I thought Cam'ron did a good job in Paid In Full

I spelled out slash cause it makes it look better as a title(to me personally you may or may not agree), meanwhile when you could have been giving up some movies people didn’t know about and put people up on game you instead chose to focus on one word in the title damn.

I’m not ashamed to say I like to watch Law and Order SVU

Tupac was great in Juice and Gridlock’d. And Ice-T definitely does his thing on Law and Order.

i like Donald Glover/Childish Gambiono in Community

Look, the greatest rapper/actor is OBVIOUSLY Will Smith. It´s impossible to pick someone else. Highest grossing, was the main character on a TV-show that´s loved by basically everyone, most Oscar´s nominations, best movies. There´s no doubt that Will Smith is the greatest rapper/actor of all time.

Well yeah that goes without saying, me the fuck too. He’s great in Mystery Team as well.

@Samie — it depends on how you definte greatest. I enjoy most of Will Smiths films. And he is the most bankable. But thats like saying Vanilla Ice the greatest rapper since he sold 17 million copies of his first album. Will is very strategic when choosing movies in that he basically only chooses action films. His filmography has very little range. Will Smith turned down The Matrix because he was afraid it was going to flop. You can’t be the greatest and not take any chances.

@RedGoneWILD — Wtf are you high? No rap album has ever sold 17 million copies.

@azera Are you fucking retarded? MMLP sold 19 million.
