He is known for his monotone flow, similar to Guru’s from Gang Starr, but it his not his charisma that grabs the listener; it’s his intelligent, braggadocio lyrics and internal rhyme schemes. Before that album, there was nobody who ever did that. |

Paid In Full was groundbreaking for its time although the sound of its a little dated today its an important peice of hip hop history and if you listen to Rakims subsequent albums he keeps up with the times. If you listen to his solo albums they easily match up to todays music. Type of stuff you can bump in your car etc. Although its true if i ever tried to play paid in full at a party thered be a wtf and changing of the song. |

Okay I’ll be honest, when I was younger, maybe like 11 years old, I thought the bulk of his music except a few select songs was boring. I still had my mom buy me his albums cause shit there weren’t many rap groups anyway. And my mom thought Rakim was like Fresh Prince, no where near as violent as Run Dmc or Beastie Boys. She was half right. Don’t Sweat The Technique was the first Eric B and Rakim album I enjoyed through and through. But his music ages like fine wine.Rakim don’t follow trends he keeps his music consistent to this day. Go through his discography and find he’s only had 2 cameos on his albums ever ! Man’s a artist. |

I can’t believe this person compared Drake to Rakim and determined Drake is a better rapper. |
