Lord Finesse To Sue Mac Miller For $10 Million Over "Kool AId & Frozen Pizza" (Back to the forum)

Here’s the full story. Rap Genius-favorite (sarcasm) Mac Miller is being sued by Lord Finesse for “Kool Aid…”, a song he released off his free mixtape “K.I.D.S.” back in 2010. I don’t really understand the exact motive behind Finesse’s actions beside all the legal “copyright infringement” yada yada yada… This song was released almost two years ago and MILLIONS of rappers have used others' beats on their own free projects. I don’t really get it. And $10 mil? Jesus. Is Finesse desperate for money or something? |

Now I don’t remember, but supposedly Mac used it commercially, which you’re definitely not supposed to do. Either way, Finesse should be ashamed of himself. Mac’s rant on twitter is hilarious and depressing, though. he knows he is forever ruined if he loses this lawsuit. |

That’s why I said “supposedly,” people said he did and if he did (and Mac’s tweets are depressing, so there’s a chance he might have), then he will definitely lose. shrugs shoulders regardless, it’s a fucked up situation. |

You can hate on Mac. I don’t care. But hip hop, and entertainment in the internet age, NEEDS Mac to win this case. Ever want to put out a mixtape? Maybe spit over a favorite beat or two? That’s not an option if Mac loses. Finesse is suing because even though Mac released the video for free, which is totally acceptable, it got him popular. That means any struggling MC’s dreams could just be wiped off. Beyond that, ever want to make a youtube video? Or any form of free entertainment? Well, anything that you do not create or are given permission to create is off limits. Every remix video, every parody song, every fan made music video: gone. This shit is almost like SOPA all over again. Finesse is threating a key part of the culture here. He wants to, in effect, kill the mixtape. I’m not a Mac fan, but he’s not trying to destroy a key part of the culture. How could you be on his side? |

Nope Silky Johnson, in the rap world rappers got sued all the time. They just had to bite the bullet. These rappers and their record companies had to diss out the cash. I remember in 98-2000 rappers were hardly sampling. Its how the game goes. I do think 10 mill is too much. They might just have an out of court settlement for a couple hundred thou. |

How you gonna sue somebody over a track they put on a mixtape. Lord Finesse hatin with his punk ass. I don’t think the court would even settle for 10mil. And if they do I don’t see how this will ruin his career. Mac will always have buzz to put out more material. |

I personally don’t see the point in suing a person for a song that was released for free. He’s not making money off the song and Finesse isn’t losing money, it’s like the Eagles and Frank Ocean situation. |

Maybe it’s just something I don’t understand but how exactly can you sue somebody off a song from a mixtape. Even though the mixtape brought some popularity to Mac, since he didn’t sell the mixtape how could Finesse have a case |
