pretty damn obvious by this point.

April 12th, 2014

GTA fell off tbh

April 13th, 2014

nah GTA was goty

very underrated by gaming community surprisingly enough

@Illest_Son

c'mon son.

@Hellblazer let’s be real though. an 8.2 is equivalent for great, good, that sorta thing in the gaming world. not for excellent, fantastic, outstanding, the adjectives that go along with a game that gets claimed as a Goty.

TLoU has a 9.1, and that’s called Goty, so obviously there is something that gamers are finding ‘wrong’ about GTA, that holds them back from willingly calling it Goty, when honestly I think it shines for Goty.

There’s a mighty difference between only being called great, and being called Goty.

TLOU easily game of the year. GTA 5 was pretty much a flop. Terrible servers for the first 2 months. Still no heist. Online game modes are mediocre at best. Story mode pretty good but cant hold a candle to LOU

April 14th, 2014

^see what i mean? and online for GTA overhated especially. the online was really great honestly, and the server issues just made a ton of funny ass glitches, and all the hackers that were on GTA were all pretty much chill and cool to play with. honestly online was better all fucked up.

if anything the online for TLOU is way overrated, and overlooked when being criticized. it’s literally nothing special.

April 14th, 2014

the online was really great honestly

cmon dawg be real with yourself. Aside from racing and MAYBE survival what game modes were fun? TDM is broken and the rest are random and boring. The only fun i had online was being with a whole bunch of my friends in free mode which gets boring after awhile.

the server issues just made a ton of funny ass glitches

aint nothing funny about not being able to play online for the first 2 weeks its release after spending 60+ dollars. And then when they finally got the servers to the point where they were usable they were still trash.

all the hackers that were on GTA were all pretty much chill and cool to play with

i can agree with this. Getting money was much easier.

online for TLOU is way overrated, and overlooked when being criticized. it’s literally nothing special.

TLOU doesnt stand out because of its multiplayer mode(which is amazing in itself) Its the flawless story mode that elevates it to crazy heights. It honestly was the best story mode experience i ever had in my life. So cinematic infact their making a MOVIE based on it. GTA 5 decent story mode and glitchy/boring online mode cant measure up to LOU’s greatness.

but the thing is, single player alone shouldn’t simply carry a game to GOTY status. that doesn’t make sense. if a game has a bland multiplayer, then it should be called out for it, no matter how great the single player, and vice versa. how come it seems only vice versa happens, where single players will be called out, but multiplayer won’t?

if every game is including multiplayer, we as a community need to seriously start criticizing multiplayer, and actually give it a strong look over. cause in the end, it’s part of a game, and so should also be accounted for as such. hence my reason for GTA being better, and overhated, because broken or not, the multiplayer and community is great, and the campaign is hands down outstanding. a bland multiplayer from TLOU should still be accounted for, outstanding, near-perfect (and potentially life-changing) campaign or not.

GTA online mode was a huge flop and i ll stand near that until proven otherwise. We got a ton of false promises. Where are my heist? Where is my solid TDM? Where is my fluid online gameplay? Like i said 90% of the game modes are terrible. I agree the story mode was pretty good but not even in the same stratosphere as TLOU’s. TLOU 11/10 story mode only puts it ahead of GTA 5 and many cosign with that. If GTA Online was what it was suppose to be then yes the fight for GOTY would have been much closer.

Like i said before TLOU main point wasnt its multiplayer. When you buy TLOU you dont think “multiplayer” you think single player experience and it is hands down the best single player experience of the whole PS3/Xbox360 generation. The TLOU multiplayer is fun to me. Giving you the same gameplay experience from the story mode with solid maps, GOOD servers, with an all around good experience. Communication and teamwork is key, stealth is usually a must so this isnt a run n gun COD type of thing. TLOU gets GOTY no question. The real question is if its the game of the generation.

well i thought GTA online was great, broken or not, and honestly everything was solid and fluid to me. only thing that could’ve used a little fixing was racing, which was already addressed.

and so what if multiplayer wasn’t the main point? the fact of the matter is that Naughty Dog still made a conscious choice to put multiplayer into the game. therefore, it should still be accounted for, and they should still be held to a standard as such.

a ‘it wasn’t the main point’ attitude is a horrible one to adopt, cause it serves as nothing but an excuse for developers to allow a shitty-mediocre campaign (ex. newer CODs and Battlefield 3), or to allow a shitty-mediocre multiplayer (ex. Uncharted 3, older CODs). if we truly are gonna dictate something as good as it is (in this case TLoU) we must hold everything up to standard, and give it no breaks, because if it really is as good as people claim it should be, then it should be of outstanding quality, to even the smallest of details. no excuses.

@Illest_Son

single player alone shouldn’t simply carry a game to GOTY status. that doesn’t make sense.

Metal Gear Solid 4. Single & multi-player, carried to GOTY awards solely for single-player.

if every game is including multiplayer, we as a community need to seriously start criticizing multiplayer, and actually give it a strong look over.

Problem with that is nowadays, most developers don’t tack on multiplayer with actually having a decent multiplayer system in mind, most of the time it’s forcefully brought in to give some additional appeal, look at Spec Ops: The Line.

the multiplayer and community is great, and the campaign is hands down outstanding. a bland multiplayer from TLOU should still be accounted for, outstanding, near-perfect (and potentially life-changing) campaign or not.

Multiplayer is alright, combat system is largely brought over from Max Payne 3 with a health system of Call of Duty, meaning 3 shots & you’re practically down. Honestly I left Grand Theft Auto V alone last year after marathoning the many exploits it started out with, being the first of my friends to find out about Violent Duct.

The community is great mostly because they had to find a way to filter out the assholes that would probably keep the more friendly players from fucking with you, not opposed but it’s like living in the higher classes of society and saying “The economy is perfect right now” because you don’t see the homeless in your gated community.

Overall, if you’re creative enough and just feel like fucking around, Grand Theft Auto 5’s multiplayer is for you though I spend more of my time with the custom races and golfing than actual shooting which is supposedly a large part of it. I will give you props on the campaign though, shit was pretty awesome.

As far as calling TLOU’s multiplayer bland….. nahson. I understand it operates on the basics of TDM like we haven’t seen that done 10 million times before but if anything, the multiplayer is tense as fuck 80% of the time with it mostly operating on stealth combat with the option for close quarters but it is not without consequence, the maps always allow some sort of off-balance so people don’t have the ability to camp out in any one location for too long, the weapons system is simple but efficient as shit with the ability to craft items quickly into play as well as a number of employable tactics to defeat your opponents from regular gunfire, grenades, mines, to throwing a smoke bomb at an individual, sprinting up to them with a shiv in hand and eliminating them within the next 3 seconds.
