Rappers that've improved over the years (Back to The Forum)

People are always talking about how rappers have fell off, any bad rappers that’ve gotten better? Thanks.

Chingy and J-Kwon

ricky ross maybe…?

Big Sean IMO

I think A$AP Rocky’s lyrics have improved on Long.Live.A$AP.

Bow Wow

T.I.

T.I., the game

Wayne improved then fell off

Kanye West IMO

Explain Squiggles: I think he progressed until MBDTF, after that he’s been steadily downhill

i think Capsule has improved a lot, his rhymes are of a distant time and place, heres a home video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6iWqquOqKlQ)

Knock this shit off CapsuleD, If you want people to listen to your music make a thread, don’t spam it in actual discussions. People keep doing this shit and it gets old.

@BennySwans, this is my personal view but I believe Kanye has improved lyrically since he came up. He started out as a basic rhymer, rapping about things like making money and coming up and the classic material. As he began to progress from his first and second albums to his third, he began to rap about more meaningful topics and did so creatively and skillfully, with songs like “Big Brother” detailing his relationship with Jay-Z and the masterfully crafted “Homecoming”. His fourth album saw Kanye going through emotional changes with the loss of his mother, and while he sacrificed wordplay on that album he added emotional depth, which would help later on. For his fifth album, his magnum opus (I believe), Kanye brought all the different aspects together; the hunger he had on his first 2, plus the creativity and lyrical prowess from his third, and the positive messages and the emotion on his forth, to create one hell of an album. Over time, he was able to master his style and bring different aspects and styles together to one complete package.

My 2 cents

T.I. He’s taken his multisyllabic rhyming to a new level, to a point where he isn’t rhyming the same 4 letter words.

Ross has improved also. Compare songs like Everyday I’m Hustling to songs like Triple Beam Dreams & Accident Murders. You can actually call Ross a lyricist (basic but one nonetheless) nowadays.

Cosign T.I.

Ross, Big Sean, A$AP Rocky… nothing that anyone hasn’t said before, but fuck it.

Good thread!

Krizz Kaliko man.. Maybe it was me who didn’t really reckognize his talent earlier, but at least now he is insanely good.

Suprised Fab hasnt been mentioned yet

Fab has always been dope lyrically…

/looks at real talk

but i agree he’s stepped up his subject matter and beat selection on the soul tape series.

LOSO ;D

Ricky Ross forsure, you can hear his lyrical growth when you listen to his projects chronologically from Port of Miami to GFID.

krispy kreme fa sho

I think Eminem has improved tbqmfh. I like Em more now than I ever did because it seems like he’s more serious in totality. Not a big fan of skits and jokes. I like that he has a more take no prisoners attitude.

Definitely cosign Rick Ross. He was absolute shit back in the day but God Forgives I Don’t was dope and I actually have it on cd.

Big Sean? Hmm, yes but I contend that he has always been pretty dope lyrically.

Meek Mill and Stalley!

Not a rapper, but I also feel I have to bring up how much Demi Lovato has improved over the years.

Chino..

Talib Kweli, maybe not lyrically but he can flow sooo much better compared to his early works. No way he could’ve pulled of Letter From The Government back in the day

Juicy J!

Kendrick Lamar if you hear training day then here his mixtape overly dedicated you will be shocked also when you hear lil wayne back in his hot boy days up til carter 3 you think he got better as well.

He was never bad (imo), but Budden’s progression has been crazy. I know some of y'all might not fuck with him, or hated No Love Lost, but listen to his material from 2008+ in comparison to his older stuff… so much tighter with the rhyme schemes, smoother, faster flow, improved wordplay and subject matter… I really think he’s been a pretty steady improvement throughout his career.

Also Budden,he had to step the fuck up lyrically after joining SLAUUUUGGGTERHOUS

jay rock, anyone?

Am I the only one that thinks Pusha T has improved a whole lot since being with his brother to on his own with Ye today?

i think eminem and lil wayne are getting worse, weezy for sure but eminem, i think he can do better, if you just go through his past
