Tyler or Hopsin? (Back to The Forum)

Recently many different music communities, not only hip-hop communities have been discussing Hopsin — Tyler beef that we may consider started as of Hopsin’s recent diss that has been more than just loud. I would love to know fellow rap geniuses' opinions on which of these young artists is more talented and skilled? I won’t personally share my opinion in the OP, and I think that our community is quite mature, so I don’t have to ask for avoiding flaming and unreasoned opinions.

They’re both horrible.

@RedMasta what are you basing your opinion on? I know that all of us consider different values in rap being important, but coming to a thread just to deny competiveness of them both just doesn’t make sense to me

Hopsin an unknown guy who has ok lyrics but has no buzz because he lacks the ability to construct an album. Tyler has too much buzz and has become over rated because people like his random lyrics which he just strings together. People think tyler is different because his lyrics are about raping girls, Eminem talks about the same things. These are two didfferent rappers who have no chance at publicity but to start a beef.

Well, I’m forced to approve to some degree, but also You must agree on one thing: both of them (Tyler and Mr. Shady) didn’t get famous purey due to mentioning raping girls in their art. Both of them have really many flamboyantly good lyrics behind these kept in the very-hardcore theme. The buzz You mentioned, that is commonly called hype, doesn’t come from anywhere. Volcano doesn’t blow without lava in it.

Tyler the creator got famous for being different. Hopsin never got famous. Hopsin is a lot better than tyler the creator. Tyler just has more hype. So its pretty much an equal battle, an equally lame battle.

I don’t like your concept of everything being about hype, fame and being lame.

It does come down to that. Think about WHY would hopsin take his time to diss Tyler, Because Tyler has hype and he doesn’t. This will also give him more hype so people will buy his upcoming album. So just ignore it because hopsin wants the attention.

Yeah, Hopsin might assault Tyler just cause Tyler is popular and hated by many communities, but the part about Tyler being just overhyped and overrated, and being hyped just because of rapping about raping girls (same applies to Shady).. I somehow can’t find myself approving here. Also, popularity-based feud doesn’t instantly mean lame, maybe that’s just for me.

I never said Eminem is over hyped or over rated. I meant that Tyler stole Ems flow and then Tyler acted like he is so original. I listened to goblin and it was pure shit. i listened to Bastard… pure shit. All of the beats sound the same and all of his lyrics sound the same.

The ‘applies to Shady too’ part was about raping girls only, the hype-part excluded. And well, I’m not really into discussing quality of Tyler and OF’s albums here, but You don’t honestly think that Tyler is copying Mr.Mathers, do You? I understand, it’s common for rappers to have related themes and close sound, but You can’t just say that either he is copying Slim or that all his lyrics sound the same, unless You expect two albums released within two years to sound exactly different, it’s just Tyler’s style, not his lack of creativity.

Everyone has influence from everyone, but in the end, I feel like Tyler is hype and game, as well as Hopsin, but to me, I feel like the “raping girls and clever wordplay” does get old. Sure they have clever lyrics, but it gets “played” after a while after hearing Tyler rape his 100 victim for the 10th time in the song. But Tyler makes his own beats, unlike Eminem. Sort of “Jazzy-Techno” beats that manages to be a hip hop instrumental.

Tyler the Creator has original beats to me, and clever lyrics, but his talk about raping, killing and cannibalism gets old…

As for hopsin, I haven’t heard much, but he doesn’t seem half bad.

@Rimmer From what I know, on recovery all beats except maybe two were produced by Shady himself, and I can’t complain about their quality. And as for the beats Slim used to rap over back in time, that were produced by Dre… Maybe they weren’t his own, but You can’t say that they weren’t good.

I wasn’t saying that Eminem had bad instrumentals, but Tyler the Creator is a producer AND a rapper/lyricist. Eminem has been doing some producing, but Tyler the Creator has been nearly all producing for non Mellowhype songs in OddFuture, since Left Brain does the producing for Mellowhype.

Ah well I agree, and I respect Tyler for his hard work on all his art.

And about the raping girls and clever wordplay getting old, it’s sad but true, however can we complain when new artists becoming artists are getting more schematic every day?

Clever wordplay is a neat item of hip hop, since it boggles our mind and makes us laugh and it’s simply cool. But raping girls is fine once or twice, but once I hear that over and over it seems like new artists or getting old quick.

Take a look like classic such as Illmatic, that didn’t have too much of one thing, it had a blend of braggadocio (braggadocio), details (NY State of Mind), consciousness (One Love) and different perspectives (Life’s a Bitch). and of course “it aint hard to tell” was simply a great way to end an album. Sure illmatic had a little bit too much braggadocio, but that’s what hip hop is all about, being “Hip to the fact” that maybe I’m better and your not. Or my raps are great, and yours are old

The Genesis(Setting/Notice the train in the song, it symbolizes New York)
Ny State of Mind (Conscious/Perspective)
Life’s a Bitch (Perspective/reminiscent)
The World is Yours(Perspective/conscious/hopeful)
Halftime (braggadocio/a little about Nas childhood)
Memory Lane (Conscious/Reminiscent)
One Love (Conscious/perspective/reminiscent)
One Time 4 your Mind (Braggadocio)
Represent (Street Life)
It Ain’t hard to tell (bliss way to end a classic)

^This guy speaks the truth. You have my full agreement, however an artist sounding like becoming old doesn’t always mean an artist that is bad to me. It’s just less entertaining to listen to him when it feels like it’s all the time the same song, cause they all are full of similar lyrical filling

P.S. I really like your exemplum here

Im a BIG fan of Tyler and OF. His DGAF attitude seems to appeal to me for some reason. There is also WAY more to him then the rape elements that everyone seems to call him on. Seriously has anyone ever listened to Bastard? He takes a really generic situation (lack of a father figure) and makes it feel like hes talking to you one on one…You kinda feel sorry for his ass after a while

In terms of Hopsin “dissing” him, hes already said that he isnt going to respond. (Citing back to the BOB incident in which he did the same thing)Theres no point giving this dude what he wants if its only gonna make him bigger. (He does admit though that he raps quite nicely)

He also says that the diss is just another sign that THE DUDE MADE IT, YEAH MOTHERFUCKERS!!!

Ey Dakotak,
If You ’ve been reading the posts carefully You probably should have noticed that back in time of responding to RedMasta I mentioned Tyler being really neat lyricists ;)
We all know that Tyler isn’t only about raping sluts, we wouldn’t have been discussing topic if we weren’t fluent with it ;)

YEA YEA whatever….SWAG

This is whats wrong with odd future fans.

What do You mean , that he ended his statement with ‘SWAG’, that he missed one post placed in this thread before or what exactly?

That whole SWAG shit is hella annoying. Lil B and Soulja Boys do the same thing.

Nah Masta’s wrong, they are actually both dope, if you really thought Goblin was horrible then I don’t even know how to argue with you. It’s too bad he chose to go with BoB, he would have made a good addition to OFWGKTA

I agree with Gino. They are both dope. Where tyler lacks in rapping ability he makes up for it in creativity, production, and content. I haven’t heard much of hopsin, but his style seems quite similar to tylers. Thats probably the reason he is dissing him.

If you lack rapping ability you obviously won’t be a good rapper.
SMH

Hopsin is catching a lot of attention for dissing Tyler, but I find it odd (no pun intended) that he’s not gaining more attention for going at Lil' Wayne — which he’s done on more than one occasion.

“I snuck in Drake’s house when he was alone inside
You can say I have a bogus mind
I dimmed the lights down and closed the blinds
Around his neck is where my rope was tied
I yanked on it ‘till it broke his spine (Yeah!)
Lately I been fucking pissed off (Why?)
'Cuz everybody sayin’ Lil Wayne spits raw
I’ll start a big brawl, and slam his ass into a brick wall
And have a fat nigga sit on him, Rick Ross (Boss!)"
Hopsin — Sag My Pants

Anyway, out of the two, I’m more partial towards Hopsin. I’ve tried listening to Tyler the Creator before and I just couldn’t get into his music. I’m not saying he sucks, but I can’t buy the hype. As for Hopsin, lyrically he’s nice, in my personal opinion.

For anyone who hasn’t listened to any of his shit yet, try listening to Nocturnal Rainbows or Heather Nicole, two of my favorites from him.

Hospin tries to hard…………Tyler is more talented if you ask me. Hospin jus disses anyone he can….all he is is a odd future 50 cent.

You should never have to diss someone to come up in my opinion, jus shows you can’t make it on your own.

@Evil1 Haha that verse is hilarious I need to listen to more of this guy.

@Quaveel I don’t like dudes dissing everyone left and right for publicity either, but I’m willing to give someone a pass if they can actually BACK IT UP and it’s clear they’re not doing it just because they suck. For what it’s worth, I don’t agree with Hopsin mentioning Lupe Fiasco on a track, but he can go after Soulja Boy all he wants. I’m down with that.

@RedMasta Yeah, he says some funny shit on occasions. I honestly thought he was a weirdo at first wearing those contacts in his vids but he won me over with his music. As far as not having a buzz goes, he signed to Ruthless Records some years ago and never got any marketing/advertising from Eazy-E’s wife — he calls her out on a few of his songs, including the one I linked earlier. That would explain why he’s only recently getting noticed.

Hopsin is insanely technically skilled. Way more so than Tyler is. But Hopsin is also a carbon copy of 90s Eminem and pretty boring to listen to. His flow and rhyme schemes are good but his lyrics and delivery aren’t.

Meanwhile Tyler’s a kind of technically mediocre rapper but he’s got style out the ass and a unique creative vision behind his music, his art, videos, his whole persona. It’s really compelling and it’s the reason why people love him and OF so much.

Raw skill doesn’t matter as much as what you do with it. Hopsin hasn’t blown up because he’s boring, and as long as he stays boring he’s not gonna have anyone to ride his dick except his little clique of midwestern Juggalos who think he’s the next biggest thing in Hip Hop.

Also, his white contacts are stupid.

yeah and yelawolf is overrated too redMasta

How is yelawolf overrated???? Nobody even talks about him.

Hopsin is a grade B raper tyler is like a c

tyler the creator no doubt, he got some word play and is raw as fuck! hopsin to me sounds corny as fuck and feel like he is only dissing fools to catch people’s attention and try to catch some fame.

Tyler. hes Better and well known. the only reson people become famous is if their good. so obviously tyler wins. and his lyrics are better. If youre an uneducated idiot he sounds like a string of randomn thoughts. if you have a background in literature, hes much better. Hopsin’s a poser. hes good. but gay. Earl is better than both though.

Go back in time, and they both get as famous as Eminem. He was a horrorcore that was completely crazy, so people listened to it. If Hopsin or Odd Future replaced Eminem in that time, they’d be almost as popular (except Eminem is a god lyricist)

I found Hopsin anything but boring, honestly, and I think you guys need to learn more about him and dig deeper before you make up your mind about him. He makes his own beats, too. Tyler’s not the only one who can do that. I personally find Tyler a lot more boring than Hopsin, I’d give Raw a listen to everyone who doesn’t know a whole lot about him.

He definitely has his own style, he doesn’t drink/smoke/like slutty girls. Just give this track a listen.

So yeah, my vote goes to Hop. Turn it up.

i know for 100% fact hopsin is ALOT better.. in every aspect of the game and that’s no joke.. im not being biased when i say this either it’s just true.

I’m a Hopsin Stan…

Only because Ill Mind OF Hopsin 4 and Sag My Pants are his most famous songs, doesn’t mean he only disses the shit outta people

He makes his own beats,SwizZz’s beats and SELLS OTHER BEATS!
His lyrics are fucking dope
AND his flow is great

You seriously need to listen to him more

He’s in my personal favorites 1st Spot
1.)Eminem & Hopsin

Hopsin and tyler are both amazing. There both so simillar, so you cant compare them. There both strange and like to diss other rappers, and generaly dont care for anyones opinion. Although i must saythe tyler the creator diss in ill mind of hopsin is genious.

s

Hopsin, but i respect Tyler.

I love tyler, and would always say tyler, but after ill mind of hopsin, i have too much love for hopsin.

Hopsin is seriously wack, Tyler has talent but can be a bit attention seeking

Hopsin wants to ride Tyler’s dick until it comes

Hopsin is in now way “similar” to Tyler.

*no

I dnt really enjoy listenin to hopsin. i could give another shot but ehh. I would say tyler cuz he is leading OF for better or worst, He hasnt rape a chick in awhile, and its enjoyable for me to listen to. Also from wat i heard hopsin fans was on his jock soo he made a song to tell his fans to get of his jock… plus he fuckin dis lupe for say he skateboards the fuck. soo yea Tyler
