Hey I was wondering where I can learn about any artist I want. Oh, wait, it’s called google. No need to make another thread titled “Insert rappers name” and go on to explain “where do I begin?????” I now have shown you how to find any artist. |

Agreed with Dilla tbh, I probably violated this at some point on there but now I just Google an artist, find their most critically acclaimed album and listen to that first. It’s not hard, I Googled MF Dumb’s shit and listened to critically acclaimed shit first (didn’t like it a whole lot but it still made it into my iTunes nawmeen) and did the same with a bunch of others too. Just use Google niggaz |

@J-Dilla & Garginator This is a site made of hip-hop heads. It would be like asking your friend “Hey, I heard some tracks with (insert name here) in it, and I know you’re a fan, so can you tell me some songs you think I’d enjoy.” I’d rather get the opinion of my peers, who I know appreciate the same type of music I do, than of some search engine. You don’t gotta go out of your way to be a dick to people who are just lookin' for some new jams. Could you get any more hipster? |

Yea, okay, that’s fine. When you ask other people it’s clearly their own opinion when they link you their favorite songs. What if they sucked dick because their taste is hip-hop is WAY different than yours and now you hate that artist because of a couple songs they linked. Google the artist yourself and start from there. Please don’t act all high and mighty
Not being a dick, it’s called research. Once again you’re asking for peoples opinion about the artist if you really wanted to know you’d just look it up yourself. Hop off that high horse big guy.
Sure thing bro. |

I’m the one acting all high and mighty? Look at this thread. “What if they sucked dick because their taste is hip-hop is WAY different than yours and now you hate that artist because of a couple songs they linked. ” So you’re telling me this never happens using Google? Sorry, but I’m a huge Busta fan, and chances are really good that if I Googled Busta Rhymes, it would bring up shit like Turnt Up, and Look at me Now. If I had never heard Busta and someone told me to Google it because their head was so far up their ass that they couldn’t take a few seconds to tell you some songs they liked by Busta, and I heard those songs, that would leave a really bad taste in my mouth for Busa Bus. But since this is a site where a bunch of hip-hop fans come together, chances are really good that I’d get more shit like Shut ‘Em Down 2002 and Break Ya Neck, and I wouldn’t have to wade through 100000 Chris Brown live performances to find a song by this artists that I liked. But apparently you’re so cool that every bit of music you’ve ever heard you researched yourself and found out that you loved it yourself. Not because anyone had ever turned you onto some good shit by them. Please, forgive me for being so naive. |

Oh yeah, The Coming and When Disaster Strikes are great places to start people off people who had never heard Busta. Would it really be that hard to go onto that thread, say, “Oh dawg, you should listen to Genesis or The Big Bang,”? Sorry, dude, I forgot you’re God. I can only hope I accomplish as much in life and hip-hop as you have that I can have the pretentiousness that you have. |

Yes, ignore everything else I said. Considering when you google a rap artist their wiki should appear with their whole discography. Once again, QQ jesus.
If people were asking me where I should start with Busta Rhymes, I wouldn’t consider them a “hip-hop head” would you? Oh, In fact it would be hard. Considering they can just google the artist. |

“Oh yeah, The Coming and When Disaster Strikes are great places to start people off people who had never heard Busta” I addressed the only argument that you can make, which is that I can google it. Yeah, sure, I can, but instead of listening to some early 90’s albums with ridiculous flow, I’d rather just be put onto Genesis by someone who knows Busta’s music. And does someone have to be a hip-hop head to listen to hip-hop, or even inquire about hip-hop now? Are we some secret cult that you had to be born into to understand? But to answer your question, every hip-hop head should have one Busta album in their collection. |

People aren’t asking for an artist’s discog, their asking what their best, and most accessible stuff is. That information is not readily available on their Wikipedia page/discography, hence why they’re asking. And yes, this site is filled with hip-hop heads, why do you think it’s called Rap Genius? |

Once again, that’s all opinion… What you might think is their best someone else thinks it’s pure garbage, and then they post what they think is their best and it turns out you think it’s pure garbage. Hence why you google their discography and listen to it for yourself… It’s really not this hard to figure out. |

Because “Geniuses” decipher rappers lyrics where others have no what the fuck they’re talking about. It’s not about how much hip-hop you know. So that’s why it’s called Rap Genius. |

Once again… What some people might consider a certain artist best work is all opinion…. Look at Kanye West, people will say Graduation is his best, okay fine, but then you have people who say that album fucking sucks and should listen to MBDTF instead. You’ll only get a bunch of random peoples opinions when you could just look it up yourself. Seriously, just google it. |

You’ll only get a bunch of random peoples opinions when you could just look it up yourself. Seriously, just google it” Yeah, but at least they gave you something to go off of more than a fucking album name, cover picture, and track listing. Your argument makes no sense. “You might not like it because that’s someone else’s opinion.” Yeah, but you might also like to too. At least you know how other people feel about it. When you go to an artists Wikipedia it doesn’t say like, “Oh yeah, you should listen to this one because it’s got really smooth beats, and he completely reinvented his flow.” Why would I take the time to sit there and listen through track after track to find a good track, when someone can just say, “Here’s a good track,” and then I can listen to it and decided for myself. You don’t have to accept everyone else’s opinion, but Google doesn’t give you any opinions. When someone tells you about an artists, they can give you reasons why they like them (ie; their flow, their beats, their storytellin'), not where and when and who they were born to. I don’t want to know what year an album came out, or it’s chronological order in their discography. I want to know a GOOD track. Google can’t tell me that. People can tell me what they think is a good track, and I can infer for myself. |

Also, with threads, you can figure out a consensus. If everyone else says an album is awesome, it damn well might be awesome, and it gives you a reason to listen to it. If everyone else says it’s garbage, you might save yourself the time to not listen to it. |

Because their might be more than one track you enjoy??? You call yourself a “Hip-Hop Head” when you won’t even sit down and listen to an entire album??? Wow… okay bro.
A discography gives you all the albums! Shit, it even comes with some bonus information like what year it came out and who produced certain tracks(just incase you fuck with their production, then you could look at their production discography and find even more music you enjoy! Pretty much killed 2 birds with 1 stone amirite?) |

“Because their might be more than one track you enjoy??? You call yourself a “Hip-Hop Head” when you won’t even sit down and listen to an entire album??? Wow… okay bro” I was stating that I’m not going to sit and listen through an entire discography to see if I like an artists, when I can ask one of my peers what a good track from them is, and go from there. See, when someone tells you a track, you listen to that track. Then you go to listen to the rest of the album. Then you listen to their discography. Googling their discography, not knowing if I even like them, and taking the time to sit there and listen to every album seems back asswards to me, man. |

The thing is, I’m not gonna listen to all 14 of Tech N9ne’s albums just to find out if I enjoy them. I’d rather go to my friend (or my forum filled with friends) and ask him which Tech tracks he likes. He’d have said something like the shit of Sickology 101, or K.O.D. I’d have listened to them, and realized I hated Tech N9ne, and saved myself a bunch of time. But according to you, I should sit here and wade through The Calm Before the Storm, Everready, Anghelic, etc. to find out if I liked him or not. |

I suggested to find their most acclaimed album and start there, not from the beginning (unless they had a “classic debut”), that’s probably the best way to go about this Google search thing, well for me at least. I’d just try and look for most acclaimed album, and if you’re still struggling, then ask. Just a little prior research before asking about what to listen to would help but not always answer your question. When your question remains unanswered AFTER research, then ask. . |

Word, since my music was rather limited before I joined this site, I had to self-discover a lot of stuff. Now, I did my research before finally asking what to listen to. For example, Shaneee frequently mentions Cunninlynguists on this site, so I decided to look them up. Found out I probably will like them and tried to find the most acclaimed album, but they were all critically acclaimed and just had no clue where to begin. I was gonna start at the beginning, but I asked Shane what he thinks I should listen to first and he pointed me in the right direction. Ended up loving all of it. . Tl;dr do at least a little research before asking lol |

Ya guys a really good site to start is sputnikmusic.com. You type in an artist’s name, and it shows their entire discography, and has both user and professional reviews. But still, sometimes it is good to get people’s opinions who know more about rap music and who back their answers up, not just random internet trolls. But for people who don’t like these threads, IGNORE THEM. Its not hard to keep scrolling down the page. |
