About
Diddy — then known as Puff Daddy — founded Bad Boy Records and set up shop in these midtown offices in 1993. Soon he had a bona fide star in Biggie Smalls, and the money was rolling like a wave pool
When Biggie was killed during the East Coast/West Coast rap wars with L.A.’s Death Row Records in 1997, Bad Boy was thrown into crisis. Fortunately, Diddy figured out a way to continue to profit off of Biggie even in his death — with “I’ll Be Missing You”. Subsequent Bad Boy Records artists Ma$e and Shyne flamed out, and Diddy decided to focus more on his Sean John clothing collection (but Bad Boy still puts albums out)
