The Queensbridge Houses in Long Island City, Queens are the largest public housing development in America. They’re also the boyhood home of Nas and the members of rap duo Mobb Deep. Nas lived on the 40th Avenue side of the sprawling complex, and Mobb Deep lived on the 41st Avenue side
In recognition of the inspiration he drew from the drug-dealing, violence, and everyday struggles he saw in Queensbridge, Nas put a picture of the projects on the cover of his breakout album Illmatic (see picture) and later filmed the video for “Nas is Like” there
