I think it is a really unique way to look at an addict. People refer to a person’s “relationship” with a given substance so writing about it as if it were an actual romantic relationship was a cool twist. I think in reality it can be very similar to an abusive, manipulative relationship; where one person makes the other feel good while at the same time hurting them and taking all the good things from their life, sometimes so gradually that they may not even realize it until they hit bottom. So I think it is a really good metaphor and written well. My mom was a heroin addict when I was growing up and so this song brought up a lot of emotion for me, parts of it gave me chills. I’m a big fan 50, thanks for taking the time to share with us!
