If you, the listener, haven’t grown up in the absolute worst possible scenario like Kendrick did, the thought of seeing someone shot and thinking it is a normal everyday occurrence is horrifying to you. Even if you did grow up somewhere like Compton, while you’re used to it, it’s still scary when you really think about it that this is so ordinary in certain places.

This skit provides an introduction to what Section.80 is: a close look at Kendrick’s generation of late 80’s kids (Kdot himself was born in 1987). This generation is defined by the presidency of Ronald Reagan (president from 1981-1989).

Having grown up in the 90’s, Kendrick saw firsthand the effects of Reagan’s policies on all types of people.

Frank can’t remember the good times without being sad that he’ll never get those days back again. The nostalgia he feels for this moment makes him want to go back so badly, yet he knows that this is impossible and that he will only get further away from that pure, innocent moment. It’s an experience anyone can relate to, and it leads Frank to cry.

Many, if not most, people in America are usually searching for cash. The way this world works, everyone from the rich to the poor wants to be able to afford more than they can, and some people make impulse purchases of things they don’t have the money to buy because they want some kind of higher status.

Drake thinks his style and his raps are both really chill. His flow is pretty relaxed here and a lot of the time, and he says here that that matches up well with his chill clothes and personality.

The literal meaning here is that Drake always has the spring collection in fall, or he has the latest styles a full half year early. But it also means that Drizzy has an advantage on his haters since he’s advancing in the rap game way faster than they are in their careers.

Lupe is implying that some other more mainstream artists don’t write their lyrics or are told what to say, whereas he is simply expressing his opinion and feelings in his own words.

Glass Table girls is sang at a much lower pitch than House of Balloons, and sounds much darker.

The lyrics however are a lot less dark than HoB, and goes through The Weeknd’s favorite things to do. (Sex and drugs.)

The switch in the song comes around the 3:30 mark.

The world has both done awful things to an innocent 5-year-old (verse 1) and forced Cole to choose between lyricism and money (verse 2). It’s truly no good

best kendrick song ever hands down. every time i listen to it the guy’s passion amazes me. this is what rap is all about

best verified annotation of all time

apparently the line is “swing your partner round and round” not “swing your butt round and round”… i’ve heard it wrong since the song came out…

i’m dying of thirst is just incredible and will forever be horribly underrated.

this needs to be combined with the other entry for this song

the “lawsuit” was cancelled… check the thread.. these lyrics need to be updated

In 2011, Drake claimed this first verse was his favorite verse he’s ever done http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ccFQd2MMiDU maybe add that to the description?
