Hick hop was something that just hit me in my soul years ago and I’ve been hooked since. Every so often you’ll discover a space, a subculture, or interest that tickles your brain in a way that you feel, “I’m going to be a regular here.” It’s different strokes for different folks and country rap just speaks to me. It’s a familiar lens to walk through life with. It’s a genre whose subject matter can elevate my mood during the highs of life and guide me through the lows with keep-on-keepin'-on ballads. My favorite being Bottleneck’s “Dirt Road Soldier”
I’m just waitin' for someone to ask me my opinion on all things country rap so I can go off on one of my rants (by the way I prefer the term Hick Hop and I don’t like the push to rebrand as “Country Rap” so as to be taken more seriously by the mainstream all the while putting down the “other rednecks who are making bad music/hick hop”). LOL there’s a taste!
My all time favorite artists are the Jawga Boyz, Katie Noel, and Bottleneck.
Of course I listen to other genres of music but they aren’t as lacking for people to transcribe their songs so you won’t see much of that side here.
