Brandon D’souza, better known by his stage name “Jr. Rhodes”, or “JR”, is an artist and songwriter born in Edmonton, Canada. His first glimpse of musical inclination arose in early childhood when he began writing lyrics of his favorite hip-hop songs and reciting them at school. His classmates urged him to pursue rapping, so in his senior year of high school, he began releasing his own music under his given name Brandon D’souza, gaining traction on SoundCloud and around his hometown. From there, he gained a passion for music and adopted the stage name Jr. Rhodes, which takes inspiration from a Rhodes Piano, particularly known for its usage in jazz and soul music.
After numerous years of singles and EP’s, Jr. Rhodes finally got international recognition from his debut mixtape “Project Paradise”, which was released in the winter of 2020. This project helped create a cultivating fanbase surrounding his unique sound technicalities and lyricism, and went on to gain the attention from hip-hop heavy hitters Benny the Butcher & JID.
Fastforwarding into 2023, Jr. Rhodes released his debut album “Color of Your Aura” on July 19, which has been highly appraised by the hip-hop community, and was Co-Signed by TDE’s Ab-Soul. With singles “PALMTREE HIGH” and “Been on You” spread across Canadian radio stations, Jr. Rhodes is solidifying himself and one of the most promising upcoming hip-hop artists from Canada.
