I’ve been a music enthusiast probably far much longer than I’ve been an actual maker of music.
I guess that I could take it back to being in 1st grade with in the first month of moving to Germany and sitting in the apartment alone. Pick up the weird new touch tone glossy forest green phone receiver, Nope, still bored. My mother had this Boom Box with the tape deck that had a 4 band EQ above it. The Boom Box radio would turn on but no sound would come out. What’s going on? So in the middle of the day my first grader self searches around the house for a fillips head screwdriver. Finding the screwdriver I immediately open this Boom Box to find that the quarter inch adapter tip is stuck and lodged in the port. So I knock it out of there and close the radio back proceed to recording on this Boom Box from time to time with my own voice over my moms Barbara Streisand tape, and smidgens of Dial My Heart by The Boys, because that was the hottest song at the time. Then came the record player in her room with the CD player that opened like a tape deck where I would put Paul McCartney’s Live And Let Die on from the film soundtrack 12 inch on high speed only and pass out in the middle of the day. While in Germany my friends from Queens had this keyboard that had a couple of seconds of voice sampling on it. That keyboard blew our minds! Our apartment complexes had 3 stairwells with doorbells in each section for every apartment so we would sexually moan and groan into the keyboard and sample it and play the automatic demo when someone would answer the intercom from ringing their doorbell, all over the place.
There’s a whole lot more that lead me up to being a music creator and enthusiast. Take some time out and ask. Maybe I’ll update this where I left off.
