About KR$NA

Krishna Kaul, also known as KR$NA or KRSNA, is a rapper and songwriter from New Delhi, India. He was one of the first rappers to emerge in the Indian hip-hop scene in the 2000s, when he went by the stage name Prozpekt.

KR$NA was born on October 4, 1987, in New Delhi, India, to a Kashmiri Pandit family. He spent a few years of his childhood in South London, where he was raised and educated. He began rapping when he was 14 years old.

Firstly, he started to record and release songs through his MySpace page in 2006. By 2008, he had gained a small local fanbase in New Delhi and racked up features with artists from the USA and Canada. His first shot of success came with the music video for “Kaisa Mera Desh”, which was released in 2010 on YouTube, In over-night, his song earned #2 position on YouTube India, which made him the first Indian hip-hop rapper to achieve that. Following the success of “Kaisa Mera Desh”, he released the song “Vijay”, in collaboration with international NGO Save The Children in 2013.

After the massive success of these tracks, he changed his name from Prozpekt to his current stage name KR$NA after signing a record deal with Universal Music Group in 2013. In May 2014, he released his debut album Sellout, an all-English effort on Universal Music with its lead-single “Last Night” peaking at #5 on the VH1 Music Charts in India. He became the first hip-hop artist in India to do a five-city album tour with a band. Later, the music video for the album’s title track “Sellout” was released, but failed to make a large impact due to lacklustre marketing and shrinking label budgets.

After a two-year hiatus, KR$NA came back on November 17, 2016, with his Hindi release “Vyanjan”. At that time, this song was leaving the radiant impact on the DHH’s audience, following the success of song, he signed to the artist management agency DNH (now KALAMKAAR) Artists in 2017 and became the partner in 2018.
