Daniel Alvarez was born on the first day of the last year of the century (January 1st, 1999), in Bogota, Colombia, where he lived until the age of 10. His introduction and love for music were evident early as he began taking piano lessons at age 3. His classical training focused on studying the works of classical music giants like Chopin, Mozart, Beethoven, and Liszt.
Shortly before his 11th birthday, he moved from Bogota to Georgia where he attended Bonaire Middle School and then Veteran’s High School. Throughout his time there, he continued to pursue his classical music prowess through continuing piano lessons, a venture that allowed him to attend Mercer University’s Townsend School of Music in Macon, GA.
During his time in high school, Daniel was introduced to rap music by friends and peers and was initially drawn to the genre by listening to rap heavy hitters such as J. Cole, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, Lil Wayne, and Drake. His affection for rap music expanded in 10th grade as he became more immersed in the art of rapping, began writing his own rap songs, and adopted his rap persona of ‘Paul Rev’. Further evolving in the role, at age 18, during his junior year of high school, Daniel began learning how to produce, mix, and master beats to his own music, as well as recording his raps as vocals.
On July 27, 2018, Paul Rev debuted his first single titled “Ride Alone”, releasing it on all available streaming services. Shortly after its release, Paul Rev relocated to the Big Apple, residing in Queens, NY, where he followed up his debut single with his second, self-written and produced offering “Go (Never Stop)”.
His residence in New York provided a lot of cultural exposure for Paul Rev who grew interested in graphic design, film photography, and videography. Combining these interests with his passion for rap music, Rev produced and directed his own music video with the help of some of New York’s most creative minds for his track titled “GRINDING”, which has garnered over a thousand views on his YouTube channel.
That was followed in May 2020 with a release of Rev’s first instrumental album effort called “Journals,” a record he both arranged and produced on his own. His most recently released single called “La Distancia” was directed at his Spanish speaking audience.
Paul Rev’s key goal is to use his platform as a musician is to speak to people with his works and inspire people with his music. He wants to serve as a positive influence on younger generations by speaking through his music to topics they find to be most relatable.
