Darkness of human existence is often side-stepped.

#REIPOP newcomer REI AMI, however, balls up her fists and unleashes her demons across the breadth of her new work. In combing grimey hip-hop scratches and impressive runway swagger, the 24-year old Maryland native eyes a sequence of singles this year – including the deliciously-macabre “MAKE IT MINE,” which is cut from a similar stylistic fabric as Billie Eilish, yet perhaps stitched with an even more sinister lace.

With a fiery debut, she displays her jagged edges for the whole world to see and invites us down into the deepest recesses of her imagination. “I want people to feel empowered and almost feel a sense of rage,” she says. “I want people to think back on all the times others doubted them, misunderstood them, defamed them, and just shrug it off and be like, ‘I’m going to do me, regardless. Why? Because I can.’”
