I, like my favorite basketball player, am a DMV repper, and then the next line makes a reference to the “KD is not nice” ad campaign from Nike.

I was born on February 4, 1995. About 9 months after OJ Simpson’s car chase. This line basically says that I haven’t been ill since birth — but since conception.

Me, summed up in one bar.

Since I started with rock music first, and Jimi Hendrix was a huge influence on me, I was dubbed “Young Hendrix”, and the second half of the line is a reference to his studio “Electric Ladyland.”

At this point and time, it feels like she’s my drug, instead of the codeine spoken of in the original song.

These are actually the first three lines of the original version of The Zone, just spoken instead of sung (see here: http://rapgenius.com/The-weeknd-the-zone-lyrics).

I tried to set sort kind of a concept with this intro, about moving slow, and sort of being in my own “Zone” (although I don’t actually sip, like The Weeknd and I mention).

The time on the clock doesn’t even matter, there’s just a feeling that something special is happening between myself and the female in question.

More of that Houston influence, and a reference to the line about “coming down, riding clean, and tipping slow.”

It’s also more of that Drake influence, as the three Houston lines are a little reminiscent of So Far Gone’s “November 18th.” http://rapgenius.com/Drake-november-18th-lyrics

She wants some sort of sign to let her know that the feelings are real, and that this is a time for something special between us.

Line 2: Basically, she loves the benefits of the fast-paced life that a career in rap can get you.

Line 3: She loves how we’re always noticed even when lights are off or get dim at the club or on stage.

"(Woo!) That's rare nigga, (Woo!) Ric Flair nigga / (Woo!)..." (Kanye West – I Don't Like) | accepted

Could also be a reference to the biblical story of Samson, whose power (which was given from God) was literally in his hair. If he were to cut it, he would lose his strength.

"Appreciate it Joe, yeah" (Wale – Tito Santana) | pending

It may not be referring to Joe Budden in particular, since “jo” is a popular DC slang term.

Pretty sure the Jay Rock line was “Double XL, YSL on a nigga”

Could be a shot at Drake, who said something along the same lines (meaning wise) at Common with the “don’t be duckin' like you never wanted nothin'.”

Which, that line in itself is ironic, since Common came back at him, and he’s never said anything more.

The “heartbroke” line may also be a shot at Drake, seeing as how one of his nicknames is “Heartbreak Drake.”

"Take a black drink it like you don't need a liver" (Travis Porter – My Team Winnin) | pending

“Nigga, Black drinkin' like he don’t need a liver”

Referring to his friend, and collaborator Black Cobain, aka “Cognac Black.” Cobizzy is renowned for his love for Hennessy, which, like all other alcohols, hurts your liver.
