What Up Mang began life as the music project of San Francisco songwriter/producer James Carnes. Accompanied by vocalist Caty McKenna and multi-instrumentalist Scott Mayfield, they seamlessly blended electronic dance music and psychedelic pop on their first album “Golden Hour.” The group has since evolved/devolved into a proper rock and roll band toeing the line somewhere between indie rock and 60s/70s garage rock. Their second album “Floral” will be released November 22 on Smoothspin Records. The new album tackles serious themes like the recent death of a close friend and the challenges of carving out a good life in California. Since their inception in 2014, What Up Mang has shared the stage with a diverse range of acts including Public Service Broadcasting, Men Without Hats, The Flavr Blue, and Marc E. Bassy.
