Artemas Is Not Trying To Be Romantic On New Song “i like the way you kiss me”

It’s the latest from the London-based producer and artist.

English singer, songwriter, and producer Artemas specializes in a dark brand of alt-pop that recalls The Weeknd, and today, he’s landed inside the Top 10 of the Genius Top Songs chart with “i like the way you kiss me,” an ice-cold disco-noir tune about prioritizing sex over feelings.

Artemas—real name Artemis Diamandis—wrote the song with Jesse Fink and his two co-producers, Kevin White, and Toby Daintree. After a brief intro, the song goes straight to the chorus, where Artemas makes his intentions clear over a sinister nocturnal throb.

I like the way you kiss me, I can tell you miss me
I can tell it hits, hits, hits, hits
Not tryna be romantic, I’ll hit it from the back
Just so you don’t get attached (’Tached, ’tached, ’tached)

In the first verse, Artemas comes off like a guy who doesn’t have his partner’s best intentions at heart. There are some weird power dynamics at play in this relationship. He’s not really trying to hide that.

Said you’re scared, I’ll let you down (I’ll let you down)
Stick around and you’ll find out (And you’ll find out)
But don’t you wanna make me proud? (To make me proud)
’Cause I’m so proud, baby, I’m so proud of you

The narrator acknowledges in the second verse that he makes his partner a little uneasy. He attempts to counter this by pushing harder for the physicality that at least one of them craves.

Do I stress you out? Can I help you out?
Does it turn you on when I turn you ’round?
Can we make a scene? (Scene) Can we make it loud? (Loud)
’Cause I’m so proud, baby, I’m so proud of you
