Girls Make Beats Release New Theme Song, “Who Runnin’ It”

The nonprofit organization is helping young women break into producing and engineering.

Last March, Genius profiled Tiffany Miranda and her amazing nonprofit Girls Make Beats, which aims to combat gender inequality in the music industry by helping more young women become producers, engineers, and DJs. Miranda founded Girls Make Beats in 2012 after scoring a bunch of high-profile engineering gigs and noticing a lack of other women behind the scenes. Over the years, more than 500 girls aged 5 to 17 have taken Girls Make Beats classes, and now, the organization has its very own theme song.

Released earlier today, “Who Runnin’ It” was completely written and produced by Girls Make Beats. The song features sharp, nimble rapping from C Bleu and Sparkle and a bumping horn-laced instrumental. The chorus (“Girls, we runnin’ it!”) speaks to the confidence these talented young women have earned through all their hard work. Check it out below.
