It’s the Michigan singer-songwriter’s first single of 2024.

TikTok-approved Michigan singer-songwriter Hayden Hubers, better known as Hayd, returned yesterday—Valentine’s Day—with “All of the Stars,” a gloomy piano-pop song about that feeling you get when you realize a relationship just isn’t meant to be. Most everyone has been there, which might explain why the song debuted inside the Top 40 of the Genius Top Songs chart.

Written by Hayd and Jeremy Fedryk, “All of the Stars” opens with pure truth. Over mournful chords, Hayd waves the white flag. He and his soon-to-be ex gave it their best shot but came up short.

All that we’ve done is try
Now all we can do is fold
It doesn’t mean that we failed
It only means that now we know
And I hope you know

Hayd believes people are either meant for each other or they’re not. The universe didn’t intend for him and this other person to be together.

If all of the stars align in the sky
Then, I would be yours and you would be mine
But not in this life, it’s not the right time
It’s not you and I

Which isn’t to say this relationship didn’t have some great moments. That’s what makes the breakup so painful. Hayd worries he’ll spend the rest of his life chasing the highs he experienced with this person.

Finally, the end’s in sight
But wasn’t it a hell of a ride?
Know I’ll never be so low
I wonder if I’ll reach the heights
That only you and I
Had by each other’s side

In the bridge, Hayd longs for the opportunity to comfort the other person. There’s no reason for either of them to feel bad. You can’t fight fate.

Wish there was something I could do to make it right
And hold you one more time
Tell you it’s alright
Written in the stars, our love falling from the sky
There’s no you and I
