Lil Yachty Flexes His Rap Skills On New Song “A Cold Sunday”

It’s his first solo single of 2024.

Lil Yachty contains multitudes. Sometimes, he’ll go all Pink Floyd and hit you with a psychedelic rock album. Other times, he’ll remind you that he’s a better rapper than many people give him credit for. Yachty does the latter with “A Cold Sunday,” a brand-new single highlighting both his playfulness and lyrical dexterity.

The credited producer on “A Cold Sunday” is Aris Tatlovich—seemingly a maker of expensive clothes—so it’s unclear who cooked up the beat, which plays with a retro-sounding soul sample. Yachty counteracts the musical mellowness with some strong opening bars.

It’s a cold Sunday to complain
I hold it in until it rain
I fought demons after fame
I spent millions on terrain

Later in the song, Yachty casually drops large amounts of money on cars and women. This adventure in reckless spending may be taking place on Collins Avenue in Miami, a hotbed for high-end shopping.

Half a mill on Maybach, tires flat, I never drive ’em (Mmh)
Pretty hoes need stylin’, Balenci’ shopping got ’em wildin’
Tweakin’ out on Collins, in my veins, the molly throbbin’ (Geekin')
Rich as hell, still robbin’, ain’t no love the way I’m rockin’

At the close of the song, which runs a mere 1:47, Yachty raps proudly about his lifestyle and insists he doesn’t care if you dig his music. But he is interested in your respect.

Twenty-five but living like I’m fifty with three kids
All these bitches in my biz, five-hundred thousand on my bitch (Uh)
Fuck if you don’t like me
I'ma still get faded more than likely, it’s enticing
I’ll die for my respect

“A Cold Sunday” comes with a music video that shows Yachty in five different rectangles on the screen, rocking a stylish outfit (white long-sleeve tee, blue bandana, furry boots) that probably cost more than most of us will make this month.
