‘Love, sex, dream” is the new ’Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds.’

“Rap game like the crack game, swear it’s all the same, hustle” – A$AP Rocky, Canal St.

A$AP Rocky is a rapper, producer, style icon, and connoisseur of recreational drugs, or so you would think. His sophomore album At.Long.Last.A$AP features an inventory of drugs that range from almost-legal marijuana to tried-and-true LSD to trendier substances like bath salts – a lthough it isn’t clear he’s actually consumed the latter.

While the album is littered with straightforward references such as “Hit Canal Street, vintage gold medallion / Smokin’ blunts in front of public housing,” sometimes A$AP gets more elaborate, like with the lyric “Them other drugs just don’t fit me right Girl, I really fucking want love, sex, dream.” “Girl” refers to LSD, which is often personified as a woman (a common nickname for LSD is “Lucy,” which comes from the mistaken assumption that the Beatles song “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds” is about an acid trip).
