Reneé Rapp and Megan Thee Stallion Embrace Their Inner Mean Girls On New Song “Not My Fault”

It’s off the soundtrack for the upcoming ‘Mean Girls’ movie.

There’s a new Mean Girls movie musical coming out in January, and actress Reneé Rapp stars as Regina George, the role she also played on Broadway. (Rachel McAdams originated the role in the 2004 movie Mean Girls, on which everything else is based.) Rapp is also a pop singer, and today, she and Megan Thee Stallion return with “Not My Fault,” a flirty disco-pop tune from the Mean Girls soundtrack.

Produced by Ryan Tedder, Alexander 23, Jasper Harris, and Jeff Richmond—all of whom share writing credit with Rapp, Megan, Billy Walsh, and Nell Benjamin—“Not My Fault” is about the perils of being irresistible. The song opens with a snippet of Lindsay Lohan dialogue from the 2004 version of Mean Girls: “It’s not my fault you’re like in love with me or something!”

Those words provide a north star for the song, as Rapp, who’s openly bisexual, begins the song with a sorry-not-sorry chorus about leaving the party with your girl.

It’s not my fault
You came with her but she might leave with me
It’s not my fault
You’ve gotta pay for what I get for free

In the first verse, Reneé repeats some gossip that’s been spread about her and makes it clear that none of it bothers her.

Oh, she’s this (She’s this), oh, she’s that (She’s that)
She’s a flight risk on the run, okay
She’s bad (She’s bad), she’s back (She’s back?)
Yeah, I’m back, bitch, are you done? (Huh)
Excuse me while I bite my tongue (Woo)

Rapp continues her unapologetic stance in the second verse. She’s out for a good time, regardless of what anyone thinks.

Get her number, get her name
Get a good thing while you can
Kiss a blonde (Kiss a blonde), kiss a friend (Okay)
Can a gay girl get an, “Amen?” (Amen; woo)

Megan takes the third verse and reminds us of her towering desirability.

I mean, who wouldn’t wanna be in love with me? (Love with me)
I’m a mood, borin’ whores gotta Pinterest me
I’m a stallion but they comin’ for me like Trojan (Ah)
And it wouldn’t be me if I ain’t cause commotion (Baow)

In the next series of lines, Megan compares herself to legendary NBA bad boy Allen Iverson and the aforementioned Queen Bee of the Mean Girls universe.

Bitch so bad, dudes thought I was A.I., ballin’ like A.I
Stick to the motherfuckin’ money like a stapler, stack like Jenga
Any pussy bitch get stroke like a painter
It’s funny how the mean girl open all the doors (All the doors)
But I been told y’all, I’m the black Regina George (Baow)

Megan’s bridge is basically the TL;DR version of the song.

’Cause I woke up hotter than I was yesterday
Don’t care about no rules ’cause I always get my way
