Seal became a household name and won a few Grammys with “ Kiss From A Rose”—but the demo tape almost never saw the light of day. In his new annotations on the song, Seal recounts how, even after his debut 1991 album, a friend had to twist his arm to get the tape into the hands of legendary producer Trevor Horn.

Seal talks about his reunion with “Trevor Horn’s genius” for his latest album, SEAL 7, which was released on November 6th. “It took a lot of knowhow,” Seal annotates on “ Everytime I’m With You”, in order to come up “with a way of making the record that gave the public the best chance of getting the message and the narrative of each song.”

Now, Seal’s added to those narratives, with annotations on select new songs “ Padded Cell,” “ Monascow,” and “ Let Yourself.” He’s also bolstered the narrative of some of his classic hits, breaking down the early ’90s references in “ Crazy” and revealing that D’Angelo played keyboard on the Space Jam soundtrack recording of “ Fly Like An Eagle.
