About “Lychee”

Lychee is BENEE’s third EP, released two years after her debut album, Hey u x. It continues in the softer, more acoustic vein of such songs as C U, veering away from the alt-rock sound of tracks like her smash hit Supalonely.

The kind-of-offbeat sound marks BENEE’s temporary departure from her alt-rock phase in favor of a sweeter, stickier kind of composition. The album was written about and inspired by pieces of BENEE’s life, as can be seen from Doesn’t Matter, about her diagnosis with OCD. On other tracks, she explores the mundane events in her life, turning them into beautiful little blobs of music with so much meaning and yet so little. It was met with widespread critical acclaim upon its release, despite not spawning any viral hits like her two previous EP’s.

I wrote this [EP] at the start of my last relationship when I felt like I was pushing away a bit. I’m so happy to be strong enough to enjoy being by myself.
