The Singles

Bikini Kill

About “The Singles ”

The Singles is the second compilation album by proclaimed riot grrrl pioneers Bikini Kill. Oddly enough, the title The Singles doesn’t entirely stay true to its name. The songs are compiled from 1993’s “New Radio” single, The Anti-Pleasure Dissertation EP and the “I Love Fucking” single. By the time The Singles released, Bikini Kill officially split up for the first time.

All songs contained on The Singles cover a plethora of pro-feminist ideas, some of which are explicitly stated (“Rebel Girl”) and others obscured through the use of metaphors (“I Hate Danger”).

Although it initially was critically ignored and overlooked, retrospectively The Singles has been praised. Most critics note the easy accessibility of the feminist punk rock sound, and others have called it the band’s “defining document”.
