Permanent Revolution

Catch 22

About “Permanent Revolution ”

Permanent Revolution is the fourth album by American ska band Catch 22 released on June 27th 2006 via Victory Records.

Although it has no singles other than “Party Song” on vinyl from pre-orders, a few tracks from the album were available to stream on the group’s site prior to its release.

The project marks the first ska concept album, revolving around the life of Communist pioneer Leon Trotsky — the title deriving from his popular association with permanent revolution theory. As vocalist Ryan Eldred explained in an interview:

Our trombone player, Ian, was reading this massive Russian history book and we were talking about how rapidly the events in Trotsky’s life happened. The revolution happens and he dies in a comparatively short period of time.

We wanted to do an album as opposed to a collection of songs, just a mood album, an emotional rollercoaster. We just started reading some books.

Permanent Revolution is generally commended among critics. Prominent British YouTuber TomSka listed it as #9 on his top 10 albums list.
