Come 2 My House

Chaka Khan

About “Come 2 My House”

After a contentious end to her 20 year span recording for Warner Bros. Records, Chaka partnered with her old friend Prince and his NPG Records label for her first independent album Come 2 My House.

The labor of love album had duties split fairly evenly: Chaka wrote the lyrics, Prince wrote the music. The result was an authentic, excursion free from the pressure of pandering to radio trends. The album spun off two singles, the sexy smoldering “Spoon” and a maternal cover of Prince’s “Don’t Talk 2 Strangers.”

The real core of the album was its autobiographical expressiveness as on “This Crazy Life Of Mine” (blessed by Clare Fischer’s string arrangements) and the funk-rock confessional “I’ll Never B Another Fool.”

There’s also plenty exploration of sensuality on “Pop My Clutch” featuring Queen Latifah, and the album’s breathy, hypnotic title track.
