The Woman I Am was the eighth and last album Chaka Khan recorded for Warner Bros. Records since signing with them for her 1978 self-titled debut.
Woman largely finds Chaka chilling out in tame adult-contemporary R&B territory like her previous album C.K., but not before delivering a few gut punches.
Khan delivers brilliant vocal performances that go from smolder-to-blister on singles like “Give Me All”, the title track, and “You Can Make The Story Right.” But the big winner on the album was the #1 Dance hit “Love You All My Lifetime” with its Rufus-meets-modern-R&B sound.
