Hailstorm & Maelstrom

Hailstorm & Maelstrom is an album created in 2015 by Devyn Smith, released under the alias Coin locker kid. The title makes wordplay out of the similar phonics in “hailstorm” and maelstrom.

The album was released with an accompanying description.

A story about a boy who disappears into a woman.

Devyn Smith also stated in further detail what the album was about in a interview with WMUC Radio prior to the album’s release.

…it’s ostensibly about a sick boy who is in a relationship with a beautiful older woman, and eventually, he disappears into her. It’s about a disappearance, a death, so to speak, the death of the ego – a dysfunctional relationship, but it’s a happy ending, because the guy disappears into the woman. It’s not a unification or anything like that, just a literal disappearance, swallowed by the woman, the better half.
