Duran Duran’s 1981 self-titled debut album reached number three in the UK, but was unsuccessful in the US and went virtually unnoticed there until the debut of MTV in late 1982. With a heavy rotation of the exotic and lush videos from the second album Rio the band’s US and worldwide fanbase quickly grew.
In April 1983, Capitol Records re-released Duran Duran in the US and other countries outside of Europe. The album had two changes to the track listing from the original Harvest label release: the ”Night Version" of “Planet Earth” was replaced by the original single version and was swapped with ”Girls on Film” as the opening track; ”To the Shore” was again omitted; and, most notably, the hit single “Is There Something I Should Know?” was added in its place.
The cover art was updated with the new DD band logo repeated from the “Is There Something I Should Know?” single and a new photo featured the band members arranged on an equal plane and reflected their evolution in styling since 1981.
